mrusse01 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2008 The Jays have been underachieving this year, it was time for a change.I get firing the manger and the hitting coach...the team can't hit. But the 1st/3rd base coaches.....how do they get fired? Toronto has had so few base runners....how can you blame them for anything. Okay, so the Jays aren't the most aggressive baserunners and their RISP numbers SUCK...but those are mangers decisions, not base coach decisions...aren't they?I heard Cito is bringing back his entire staff (minus HC I'd assume) from when he was here the first time...What Chadd said, plus they're not just base coaches. They're on the same level as bench coaches so the upper management just wanted a clean break and no possible loyalties to the ex-manager.If they had made Whitt Manager instead of Gibby way back when...they may not be in this mess to begin with. Not to the same extent in some ways, but I think they'd still have problems. I like the enthusiasm of being a team that never spent money to being a team that spent it, but the years they decided to was full of people being paid more than they should. Hell, what experience has Riccardi ever had with being allowed to get FAs? It's not unlike people used to poverty winning a lottery and being bankrupt shortly after.JP's argument was he had to overpay players like Ryan and Burnett just to get people to realize Toronto was a factor in free agency. Of course, Burnett has an IQ below 75 and Ryan missed an entire season and now throws an 88mph fastball, so neither of those signings really worked out. JP's done after this season, his bone headed comments about Adam Dunn had to have sealed his fate.

I don't know how you can come out and publically question a man's desire when he is one of the most consistent players in all of baseball, will get you 40 HR/100RBI/100R/100BB every year and has missed I think 15 games the last 4 years combined. Yes, he has a bad batting average, but I'll take a guy who can hit 40 bombs and get on base at a .390 clip on my team any day. But I guess when you have hit machines on your team like Vernon Wells, Matt Stairs, and Lyle Overbay, you can afford to nit pick a guy because of his average. And you can really question a player's desire when you've just signed Alex 'don't get my uniform dirty' Rios to a massive long term deal. Even if Adam Dunn hates playing baseball, who gives a fuck? Look at his results. There's no column in the standings for 'desire'.Dunn was right on the money when he called J.P. a 'clown'.

mrusse01 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2008 I hope Dunn hits one 500 feet and rounds the bases pointing at J.P.And they'll never put J.P. on the screen at the Dome, anything mildly controversial they refuse to show.

mrusse01 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2008 I'm pretty sure there is some stupid American League rule as well where you can't show close plays in case the ump's got it wrong, because they NEVER show replays of a close play on the JumboTron.
Jason Harris 31 Report post Posted June 24, 2008 My understanding is it's more of a guideline, yet it's not limited to the American League. I've been at the Rockies games and wanted to see the replay, then realized they won't show it. Too many drunk skunks have reacted badly in the past.
RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted June 24, 2008 WTH?!?!? 6-0 Jays (End of 1).
Dougie8 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 5-0 Cinci.. top of 3! Jr. hit a 2 run homer in the first. The Jays young'ens step up to the plate and hit a few dingers... 5-4 Bottom of third. Would definetly love to see them get the comeback win tonight.
bubber27 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 Who are these guys? So night and day. I was at the game last night, pure power surge. Spanked Arroyo real good. Then tonight, it's lights out except for the 3rd. Then the 7th rolls around, first three pitches, three singles by Rios Wells & Stairs. Sacks drunk none out, AND THEY DON'T SCORE A FRIGGIN RUN IN A TIE BALL GAME. Pathetic.I love the Jays, ever since I can remember (1985 for all the oldschool heads), and watching this team night in and night out is disappointing. Watching Doc, AJ, Marcum, McGowan & Litsch eat up all these innings for what, late inning heartbreaking losses? And who's to blame, the management or the players? Some of these guys don't even look like they care **coughOVERBAY/RIOScough**Damn Ted needs to pull the trigger and drop JP. Bring back the smart baseball people, the Paul Beestons & the Pat Gillicks of the baseball world.Phil
RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted September 4, 2008 I can't WAIT for a full season under Cito. This is a TOTALLY different team than from the first 3 months of the year.
bubber27 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2008 Agreed. So much fire in these guys. Love seeing these late inning wins.If they didn't put themselves behind the 8 ball so badly the first two months of the season, they'd be right in the thick of the pennant race, which is shaping up to be a really good one right down to the wire.Phil
nspeen 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2008 The Jays are good at taking advantage of the Twins crappy bullpen
Dougie8 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2008 I really wanted to see Thigpen get the game winning hit, after he battled through that AB. I couldn't believe that they didn't put it away with the bases loaded (...allthough, I wasn't all that surprised after watching the Jays all year). But they've definetly had some exciting ball games this past while.
RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted October 14, 2008 Awesome news....http://tsn.ca/mlb/story/?id=252620&lid...s=topStory_mainPAUL BEESTON is back! I wonder if Pat Gillick will reconsider "retiring"?
bubber27 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2008 Heard it today too on CP24. Teresa Kruze was ear to ear smiling, like a little kid. She was probably harping back to her TSN days when she used to do the 630 segment. You know he's gonna have some say in trying to keep AJ. Hopefully he can bring back some old magic. And Gillick? I think he's done. His last hurrah is the Phillies. Also real happy for Matty Stairs, he CRUSHED that Broxton fastball yesterday.PB
