Kor Shift1

Recommended Posts

i picked up a pair of shift1s from hockey giant the other day and they feel absolutely great. i played a couple beer league games in them so far, and i felt like i skated pretty well. after reading on MSH that baking is recommended even if they feel good in the first place, i baked them last night before my game. didn't seem to make much difference; still comfy, nothing noticeably different really.

the only issue i've had with these (and have had both before AND after baking) is that i'm having edge control issues with my outside left. i can't one-footed stop. not that i'd do that frequently in a game, but it's weird that i've been able to in all other pairs of skates i've had, and now cannot.

i really do not think it's a pitch issue (having owned a couple pairs of L7s with pitch holder), and it's definitely not the sharpening. the holder appears to be aligned properly and runner is not bent.

i don't think it's a confidence issue - it more or less feels like i cannot rotate my foot enough to commit to the stop.

i guess i'm asking if there's anything else i can check on the skates? or if anyone else has had a similar experience with any brand / model of skates.

i'm not professing to be a great skater, but i find it odd that i can do it wearing other pairs of skates, and now not these. that said, i do like these skates a lot and think i may actually be a bit more comfortable cornering / etc with them. but i'd obviously like to resolve this "issue" if possible :]

thanks - MIKE

i've sharpened my own skates for the last 2-3 years and have never had a problem; that said, that was my first assumption as well, so i re-sharpened and still didn't notice a difference. even tried a shallower hollow than normal (3/4" instead of 5/8"), and still no difference.

anything else maybe?

thanks - MIKE

if you're coming from a different boot, maybe you're not used to the design of the kors. if your left foot is your weaker side, that could be what is causing a problem

JR - alignment looks good to me; will take a picture and post if changing diamond and re-sharpening doesn't work. thanks again.

P5 - left is my weak side, but it feels like i'm restricted by the skate. perhaps a poor workman blames his tools, but i'm hoping the above will solve the problem :]

perhaps the low cut of the Kors is a contributing factor? L7s are a pretty tall boot, and will offer greater lateral stability than the Kors. What else have you skated on previously?

in the last few years:

bauer supreme 6000, bauer vapor 8, ccm vector 7.5, graf 703, easton synergy 700 (low end), easton stealth S7 (also low end), mission L7... probably more i can't remember :o

kors feel like they fit me the best! but they are definitely lower cut than the others...

between the lower cut, and the stiffness of the boot... it simply will take some getting used to. once you get used to them, you will have excellent edge control. just a new feeling.
