Graf sizing issue

Recommended Posts

Alright long story short.

A. Graf supra g3's size 8 or 8.5 not sure, the silver sharpie said 8 underneath the insole.

B. Sold those, then got ultra g35's size 9regular and feel like a boat and that I am swimming in them and the heel isn't anything like my g3's which fit like a dream.

They only reason I'm hurting here is because I would like more depth in a 703 or g3 but I'd have to get a custom graf skate. What would I tell them to get more depth?

The G-35 is a deeper skate but I believe the heel is actually slimmer. I have tried the 735 which is it's predesessor and it has a narrower heel and wider forefoot. It would stand to reason the fit would be the same.

The -35 has the same heel as the -03 - but because everything else has changed, your heel isn't being seated correctly. It's like wearing a jacket with perfectly tailored shoulders but a chest four inches too big and sleeves that are at your fingertips - ain't gonna work.

Going custom is fairly straightforward in your case: you just say, I think I need a G3 with a little more depth, because I'm swimming in a G35. Shop says, OK, measured you up, you talk it over, they send in the order.

Stuff you should try first:

-35s in 8, 8.5 and 9 Narrow width

-03s in those sizes in Wide width

Any particular reason why you're hell-bent on Grafs? Have you tried anything else for comparison?

Well. I really enjoyed the flex of the g3's I had but the length wasn't great. I mean these are the first pair of skates that fit me so well. I fit ok in to easton's but I don't trust their durability and I have to get them in narrow.

Fair enough - when you've found a last that agrees with your foot and a construction that works, that's all to the good.

What I'd suggest is trying on a range of lengths and widths in the -35 and -03 series, to figure out what works best. For example, a -35 Narrow in the right length will have more depth than a -03 Regular in the same, but the widths will be pretty comparable. If, at that point, you find that you really like the heel from a certain skates/size, the forefoot of another, and the depth of another, that's how you should be thinking when you're measured for customs. The more information the skate maker has to fit you, the better.

Letter from TOTALHOCKEY.NET

Dear Mr. English,

Thank you for emailing TotalHockey.net Online Customer Support.

I spoke with our custom rep and here is what we need from you. They will do the custom skates but they need a photo of you in either a 703 or G3 skate in a size 9 to get a prospective on what depth needs to be added to the eyelets. The cost would be $699.99.

I truly hope the information above is helpful. Please contact me if you have any further questions or concerns. Thank you for shopping with TotalHockey.net!

I would never trust any kind of custom fit thats not done in person, unless you are 100% confident in your ability to make accurate (and the correct) measurements

I would agree with the above, UNLESS you can provide well-made sock and imprint molds to the skate-maker.

A photo is a very, very uncertain way to gauge depth.

So if I HAD to get a pair of skates that fit like the "3" series from a different company what would fit closely? mainly just heel wise. I'm willing to get used to a different holder but I love the cobra's now and nothing else feels quite as nice.
