flex confusion

Recommended Posts

my Innovative rep told me a long time ago that a stick gets 3% stiffer for each inch you cut off. i miss that guy.... he knew tons about composites. it may even be a little more, but its relatively accurate. its funny to watch alot of smaller guys buy 100 flexes and cut 2-3 inches off their stick. there is nothing like the feel of a stick that loads up and just unleashes-- and you shouldn't have to bear into the thing like the puck is 300lbs..... because it isnt.......

THINK ABOUT IT!

Is there some formula for the amount of flex added for each inch cut off?

5 flex or 10 flex..or a %?

if you look in the NB catalog on here it has a flex cut off chart in the end of the stick section.

i like that Bauer and now just recently Easton starting adding markers on the stick reflecting the flex according to what you cut it down to.

One of the problems I have is that sticks are usually a bit too long so I have to cut them, increasing the flex though if I don't want to.

So if I find a nice 75~ flex stick it usually goes back to a regular and kinda defeats the purpose.

the general formula to determine what stick flex you 'should' use is just to divide your body weight (in pounds) in half. So if you weight 150lbs then about a 75 flex stick is right.

Not true at all, there are more exceptions to that rule than people who fit into the formula.

You should feel your stick flex on a wrist shot. If you can't, the stick is too stiff.
