Tried some G5's on at my lhs...

Recommended Posts

I think I know the answer to my question, but I thought I'd run it by the forum for some feedback.

I was at my local lhs (PH in Warwick) and saw they had some G5's someone returned within their 30 day return period. The boots felt sooo great in length and width, and even my heel was happy. They even passed the pencil test on the way up to the 3rd eyelet.

The only problem I observed was when I was starting to lace them up - I felt a hot spot under the tongue, just past my toes.

Does this mean the skates are too shallow for my instep/midfoot?

Would superfeet fix this? Can it be "fixed" or is that an area that can't be remedied?

At the moment I didn't think to try on a new pair - my wife was waiting, but any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

IMHO most things can be fixed with a "heat gun" and stetching material, although if its within the plastic toe cap - then your getting into sometime "unfixable" territory...I don't think "Superfeet" will help perse, because usually "Superfeet" are thicker than normal "cheap footbeds" and lower the volume of the skate.

Most likley this "hotspot" would go away after a couple bakes, and a couple skates. In other words - a shake, bake and skate! LOL

The G-5 is a relative of the 705 which in my experience a deeper fitting skate than the 703/704, with a regular heel width. It comes with an insole very similar to the Superfeet insole as in my 735's. As previouly stated you may need a bake or to take a heat gun to the toe to get rid of the hot spot. I had that problem with the 703's I had about seven years back but because I'm old school and like to break my blades in naturally I just waited it out and the pain was gone after about five to seven games in them. I don't think putting Superfeet insoles will make a significant difference to that problem.

Thanks guys - I'm glad I asked (the guys at PH are probably great people, I just don't fully trust their opinions depending on who you talk to there).
