Could baseball economics be getting better?

Recommended Posts

So, the criminally cheap Marlins extended possibly the best player in the NL for six years at 70mil. This will buy out I think three arbitration and one or two free agency years.

This team made a profit before selling a ticket this year because of revenue sharing. Maybe, with the new stadium coming, they're interested in spending money. If this is the case then maybe things are really turning around.

The Royals have started spending money, the DRays are bringing people in. At this point it's pretty much the Pirates as the only team, if the Marlins get in gear, sucking the NYM/NYY/Boston/Anaheim/Detroit teet.

The baseball model is a joke and this is coming from a Boston fan. Most likely the Marlins will be dumping what appears to be a cheap Ramirez halfway through the deal for a bunch of youngsters.

I think this means they're committed, to him at least. But they now need to extend that commitment to Hermida, Willingham, Maybin, Volstad and others like that.

The new stadium might cause that.

That's the thing, you know they'll draw with the new stadium, and teams can usually ride that wave for a few years. It'll definitely get them an all-star game too.
