Staal's grandfather dies. Eric will leave World for funeral

Eric Staal has left the Canadian team at the IIHF World Hockey Championship after the death of his grandfather.

He travelled back to Thunder Bay, Ont., today and will attend the funeral Wednesday. Staal will miss Wednesday's quarter-final game against Norway but will rejoin the team in Quebec City for the semifinals if it advances.

Teenager Sam Gagner will dress in his place against the Norwegians

Is it possible Jordan would fly to thunder bay after tonights game? The funeral is tomorrow and would allow him time to get back to the team before the next game?

I'm referring to Jordan, who plays with the Pens, who face the Flyers in the NHL playoffs tonight.

PHILADELPHIA - Penguins centre Jordan Staal is expected to play in tonight's Game 3 of the NHL Eastern Conference final at Philadelphia before flying to Thunder Bay, Ont., on Wednesday morning to attend his grandfather's funeral.

Staal will then fly back to Philadelphia on Wednesday night. The Penguins won the first two games of the best-of-seven series at home. Game 4 goes Thursday night in Philadelphia
