eric42434224 1 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 I am back in hockey after a hiatus of 20+ years, and I have been contemplating going with a half shield. I use a bauer helmet and full cage combo, and it is pretty comfortable. Of course there is a vision issue with the cage, but nothing that seems to truly impede my game. i have been considering using a half shield, but I am concerned about opening up my face to injury (I also just had about 5k in dental work done to replace a bridge across my 6 front teeth). My question is, what are the downsides to the half shield, which ones are recommended, and is the risk worth any advantage? Thanks in advance!
number21 3 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 after 20 years, do you really want to worry about a rouge flying puck or all the high sticks that happen in adult league hockey?I would stick with the cage. If you have vision issue, supposedly the new 9500 mask is supposed to be very light and open up some peripheral vision. According to the NBH catalog.just 2¢ from a guy who started hockey in his late 20's
top 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 I went from the bird cage to the visor. And IMO the halfer is hands down the best thing i ever used. Sure theres this question of, if i get hurt, or when i get hurt, but accidents happen. I'm going on my third year junior and i haven't had one stick, puck in the face since i used it, but i just found ways not to shove my face in traffic if you know what i mean.
