Shin Guard Question.

Recommended Posts

Hey, I was wondering which shin guards are the best to wear with custom knee braces (torn my acl, just wanted to know ahead in advance). Sorry if this has already been discussed about, Many Thanks.

Jofa/Rbk works well. Pretty wide wich is good with a brace. Awesome protection of course, as always. I have friends that play with kneebraces and they all wear that combination.

I concur. The Jofa/RBK's are wide enough to accommodate a knee brace. Other brands fit much closer to the leg and some brands narrow down as you go closer to the ankle area trying to be more ergonomical to the shin area. The knee brace will either hamper the proper placement of the shin pad on the leg or the shin pad won't go on at all.

Also agreed. I skated with a brace for half a season back when I had my older Jofa shin pads and had no problems with comfort. I still had all the protection and mobility or as much mobility as I could with the brace. I couldn't see it being comfortable wearing a brace with my newer NBH Supreme 50's as they are much narrower and fit closer to the leg.

I wear knee braces on both my knees, and I've found that Bauers work pretty well. The current Missions that I have are pretty good as well.

These are the shins I've tried with my knee braces:

Bauer Supreme 1000

Bauer Vapor 10

Mission Sub Zero - really bulky shin pads, but really really protective and super light.

I wear a Donjoy knee brace and i'm currently in RBK 7K's and they are good, if you have to, take a torch or a heat gun to the knee cap on your shin pad and open it up a little bit to help, also I switched to thinner liners from my old jofa 9040's because it is thinner than the 7K liner and helped fit the brace under easier.

Ok, besides the two Donjoys, what other brands are you guys using?

I went from a custom CTi2 on my left leg, and now use the off-the-shelf C180 on both my legs.
