Abubaca 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2008 Kinda sounds like there's a few different issues being discussed. With regards to the original post, I can't argue with the judges ruling, but I'm surprised so many of you guys are so quick to throw the book at this guy. Beer league may not be the "show", but it's still hockey. There's still a LOT of contact, albeit no checks, and tempers still flare. You don't drop the gloves and square off, but an angry slash or a gloved punch is certainly something that happens from time to time. Penalty, YES! -and if you cause injury, then you pay the price as this guy did. BUT....I can't say I totally blame this guy. As someone mentioned, you don't know the whole story. Maybe the guy who got punched was an a$$, maybe not. I've always been VERY disciplined, and typically am around the bottom of the list for PIMs. That being said, I've played over 10 years of beer league, and I can't say I've NEVER thrown a punch or slashed out of anger. eric42434224 1 Report post Posted May 29, 2008 I will agree that we do not know the whole story.... but there is one thing that we do know: He was given his day in court, and through testimony, affadavits, and evidence, he was able to tell his side of the story. Yet he still lost, and was ordered to pay punitive damages as well as medical expenses. I think it is reasonable to assume that the guy got what he deserved and that he obviously took his anger too far.JMHO.
Abubaca 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2008 he was able to tell his side of the story. Yet he still lost, Oh, don't get me wrong, he punched the guy, and under the law, he's responsible. Regardless of the "whole story", you can't punch someone because he may be a jerk....my concern was simply how many of you dismissed the physical nature of the game. Beer league or not. So long as no one gets injured, and it's left on the ice, I'm all for good ole rough tough adult hockey. Sometimes, rough and tough hockey goes too far, as it did here.
