Draft Success of all Teams in NHL History

Recommended Posts

The only flaw I see is that they didn't follow Quebec, Winnipeg and Hartford after they moved. It's not like the franchises ceased to exist, they simply relocated.

The Leafs and Rangers are ahead of the wings for both and they seemed to have had good results. Toronto went through a bad dry spell though and it did hurt them for a while, but it's not like they haven't had their chances.

Calgary, Dallas, Colorado, etc were included in the bottom as seperate teams. Since they were not expansion teams they should have been combined with the results of the former city.

Looking at the vintage rating the top 4 teams in drafting never won a cup, so it's a pretty irrelevant stat. It measures the ability to draft players who can play in the NHL, not the ability to spot future stars or hall of fame caliber players.

True but it's much more about SMART drafting than getting the most high picks. Lidstrom, Holmstrom, Zetterburg, I can go on about the number of 6th and 7th rounders they stole. Meanwhile, the Leafs and Rangers just kept drafting Turd Fergusons with their 1st rounders.

They go that late because nobody expects them to turn out the way they do. It's a crapshoot that late in the draft. I totally agree that the Leafs first rounders have been huge busts, it looks like Colaiacovo, and Boyes may turn out which is a plus. They got a few guys late Stajan, Kaberle, Pilar, Hedin. They did have that awful dryspell though.

Just scroll down to the bottom and it says update and the guy combines the teams.

He updated it several hours after my post, compare the timestamps. It's great work, he's only missing the KC-COL-NJ combo now.
