Full Visors

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about getting a full visor for my helmet this year. I haven't quite decided what helmet I want but I do need a yellow helmet, and I just wanted to hear your guy's views on full visors. Also, about helmets, I have cut my choices down to Nike Bauer 9500, CCM Vector, and RBK 5K helmet (Swedish Jr. Team helmet.) Also if you have any tips on which full visors are best that would also be great, thanks!

First of all, let me be the first to welcome you to MSH. Their are already many topics on full visors, so don't be surpirsed if this gets shut down.

Thanks, I searched but didn't see anything. But I'm guessing that it could be considered under cages.

Yes, That very well could be!

While we are on the topic, CCM Vector 10 is a nice fitting helmet, i enjoy mine, and I wear and Itech Oval Silver cage on mine. There is some food for thought

Thanks I had the Vector 10 in black last season and it was a nice lid. I just wanted to know how it would fit with a full visor.

My 500th Post

The cage fit good, there was a bit of room between the cage and my eyes which i liked. I played half of the season with X-100, so that kind of helped me get use to it.

I'm a fan of the Bauer oval cages, but overall, I tried a full cage and couldn't use it. The chin pad gets in my way, but that is a cheap excuse since I've taken so many sticks and pucks to the face (knock on wood so far...). I never played minor hockey, so I never played with one to get used to it. Depending on the league, I found that when I play with lower beer leaguers, they tend to keep their sticks higher (control and not knowing better) but when I play with higher levels or old timers, they know how to control their sticks.

Anyhoo, my recommendation would be the Bauer 9500. The oval wires decrease the interference of the cage and is a bit stronger. I used the polished cage and found that it shined too much in my eyes sometimes, so I would go with the flat white.

Thanks for the tips, but I am a minor hockey player (15 years old) and I just want to switch from a Cage to a Full Visor. But if I do end up getting a cage I'll remember that. Thanks.

I have an Itech 7 Concept II Deluxe full visor that I've been wearing for 3 years now. I would recomend it to anyone that wants a full visor. It never fogged up on me and it, surprisingly, hasn't scratched yet. I definitely feel like I got my money's worth.

Thanks man, that's the main one I have been looking at. Just curious, what helmet are you wearing with it?

Chiming in with a CCM V10 with an ITECH FX50. The fit is good. It could be better if i dropped a few more pounds. I'll post a picture later one tonight.

I'm a cage guy myself. I always ended up scratching the visor. If you're meticulous it might be worth it for you. I like the no-hassle aspect of the cage.

Just wondering, you said you've narrowed down the helmets, what process did you go through? Have you tried them on or are you going by looks and specs?

If you haven't tried them on (and if it is possible) please do. You really should go with the helmet that fits your head the best.

I've tried the NikeBauer 9500, and I have the Vector 10 just in black. But I have not tried on the RBK 5K because I don't think you can get them in N.A.

Bag on helmet. If you have an extra sock or something that would probably do

Visor mount Mod1 1/8 thick clip that wraps around the cage part removed rom both sides. I am not too sure that it was necessary

mod2 J-clip

the recesses on the helmet prevented the flt part of the J-slip from sitting right so I cut it.

NICE FEATURE - Visor/Cage removal without tools! The unusual center mount allows for the visor to be removed. Nice feature if you want to skate without it on.

I gave up on the full face shield because of the scratching and scuffing issue. It just got too distracting trying to look around the imperfections on the shield everytime you picked up another blemish on it. Went to the Jofa FM 480 and have never looked back. Unfortunately a lot of players don't give themselves time to adjust to a full cage and complain about the looking through the bars on them. I toughed it out and now I don't even notice the cage when I'm playing. It's almost like not having a cage on now, except for the little bit of extra weight ( which is not very substantial by the way) on the helmet. The other issue with the face shield was air circulation and fogging. No issue with a cage on those.

I also went the cage route because my visor kept fogging on me. If you could try out a friends visor in open skate, that might help.

That looks sharp!

Thank you. I like it so far. For what its worth I don't have the on ice or on bench foggin issues that are being mentioned here. If you do go with a visor route, the anti fogging treatment should always be availble to you. The Recon, FX50 and I think the x100 and the dx100 uses the same visor that has an anti fogging coating on the inside ready to go. The is also an anti scratch coating in the lens. If you do wind up getting one, do not use any cleaning solutions that will strip away coatings (Windex has ammonia, any alcohol based products, etc)

I have experienced fogging issues when going from the cold sheet to a very warm room though.

Stick to what is suggested OR a little baby shampoo with a lot of water.
