_HSB_b345t 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2008 I bought this pair of Code 1 skates brand new about 9 months ago and noticed in the past couple weeks that they're going soft. I only play once a week and air them out after every game. Upon close inspection, I found that boot was creasing on both sides of both boots. Is this considered normal wear and tear? Is it a warranty issue? I kind of expected more from a $300 boot.. at least more than 9 months worth of once-a-week-rec-league. Ideas?
schrempsky 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2008 not a warranty issue, that just means that you are able to flex your boot, and are essentially breaking the boot down structurally. it means you are either a good skater, you are using a boot that is too soft for you, or a combination of the two. all it means is that you have gotten good use out of your boots. nyrmetros 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2008 Interesting.. but in 9 months? :(In 9 months I have torn all the padding away in the heel of my rbk 5k boots. But I play 3 - 4 times a week. And my skates are a half size to big I think.

Patrick67 1 Report post Posted June 25, 2008 I can only get a season of my skates if I'm lucky, and I only skate on stiff topmodel skates. So 9months for a code1 is definantly not unnormal.

Spreedizzle 1 Report post Posted June 25, 2008 After 9 months in my Code 1's they had gone soft, but the most distressing thing with my Code 1's was the breakdown of the padding in the heel and ankle pocket. After 6 months it had all broken down and I essentially had direct contact with the structure pieces of the boot (hard plastic, composite). Not comfortable at all. When they broke in properly they were great feeling and comfortable skates, but that lasted for about 5 or so months and then the pain of skating on plastic. I wasn't overly impressed. :(

WhiskeyTango19 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 normally everytime I see that type of crease in the skate, it means it is too big for the skater. If possible, can you pull the footbeds out, lay them next to each other, and take a pic of the footbeds and post it up?
schrempsky 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 id give superfeet a try if you havent already, help you with your arch collapsing, and with width as well
Neilsen 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 i had the exact same problem with my code one's. whenever i leaned foward on the toung, the boot would kinda fold itself over. They got so weak that i would just ramdomly fall in the middle of games and i lost a lot of balance. Now i'm using the Carbons and they're still really stiff and i love them
AWE46M3 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 Funny this pops up right now. I got my Code 1s back in December of 2007 but didnt really wear them until like the end of January and have been playing once or twice a week since then with them and I can feel how they have softened up. My 7 year old Vapor 10s feel stiffer. I started to think these were going soft about a month ago, then thought it was just in my mind, but in my last game I could feel it when skating hard that the boot was flexing a lot. I'm not a big guy either so I know its not excess baggage breaking down my skates - my wheels tend to last about 10 good skates or about a month or so, I actually weighed a little more when I was using my Vapor 10s. I had always been under the impression ice boots were better than roller boots (for some reason) and this was the first pair of roller hockey skates I bought, and I hate to say it, but perhaps this confirmed my suspicion... I know my next skates will be ice conversions.

Also, we're about the same size wise. He may have a couple pounds on me but nothing more than 4-5 max.
