new skates

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I just need a little skate advice.

I currently have the Bauer One90’s and I’ve had them for about a year. I’ve always had foot pain in both feet, its that achy feeling on the bottom of the feet, kind of at the arch. At first I thought they just needed to be broken in, but I’ve baked them and its been almost a year of skating at least 4 times a week and they still kill my feet. I’ve even tried putting in new footbeds and loosening the laces.

Im thinking about just buying a new pair for college hockey because I don’t want to start off the season with foot pain. I know Graf’s are the skate for comfort and I doubt my foot will grow anymore so it would probably be my last pair of skates. I am also considering Vapor XXXX's. Any advice on if I should buy new skates, what I should do with the bauers, what pair of graf’s should I try (I want the lightest graf skate, I know they are a bit heavier skate), etc.

Thanks!

All graf skates I think are about the same weight, although I think the utlra series is probably the lightest. Anyways, what would you rather have light skates that hurt or only a little more weight and comfort? I'd say tell your shop your problem. Try on a lot of skates and get a good idea. Get measured again. It sounds like an issue of your foot being too wide(correct me if i'm wrong people) get your width measured as well.

I've had this kind of pain before. I have wide feet but it turned out that the skates were the wrong size and the arch of the boot didn't match up with the arch of my foot.

Hope this helps and good luck.

What kind of foot beds did you put in the skate? Do you have wide feet? Narrow feet? Low arches? High arches? Instep?

Superfeet footbeds! I had the same dull ache and blamed the skates. It turns out that even high end skates skimp on generic footbeds. Superfeet specifically makes footbeds designed for hockey skates. They used to be grey, I think they are now yellow. They are a little pricey for footbeds, but they are much cheaper than new skates.
