Girdles

Recommended Posts

I found the XXXX core pad to be pretty restrictive when I tried it on. Does it move alot more freely when it is broken in?

Yeah, I never had any problems with it being restrictive, even the first time I wore it, but once you break it in it is even better. Since it is bigger then a typical girdle though I can see why that may be a concern for some people when just trying it on. I think it's maybe cause the pads are bigger and with how tight it is around you thighs, may feel like it makes you less mobile.

Vapor XXXX - I have skated twice in the girdle. It is a little bulkier on top near the hips than most, but has one VERY major improvement...the tailbone protection. Most girdles suck in this department. It is nice to have a girdle that feels like a pant in that area. Another interesting enhancement of the XXXX is the package area. Most girdles interfere with the cup area or overlap in that space. In the XXXX, it is cut out...to fit perfectly with a cup. Guys who don't like to wear cups...this is not your girdle...it leaves the Johnson WAY too exposed.

I also have the XXXX Core Pad and love it, except for the exposed cup and inner thigh area. I'm not one of those guys who doesn't wear a cup, but I took a shot off the inner thigh that if wearing pants, would not have not left the welt I ended up with. May have to wear some addditional padding with the XXXX to compensate.

The MBP8 and ONE90 girdle is also cut out in the groin area.

You may want to get some pant lowers and keep the thigh pads in. That's what I do - I've never used a "girdle" shell.

Any suggestions on lowers that have already have a belt, suspender buttons, etc ?

Lowers won't have suspender buttons - they always have the slits.

Padded belt is fine, it's not going to interfere with anything.

Any lower from a two-piece pant will do the trick. You can even go as far as to gut a pair of regular pants (cut out the hip/tailbone pads)

I explored both ways (girdle and shell), and didnt like either. The higher end pants felt to big, heavy, and bulky, and didnt give much flexibility for changing colors. The girdles I tried seemed to offer little protection, and the xxxcore seemed way too restrictive and bulky. I ended up keeping my vapor lite xv pants and am using a shell to cover them. They seem to be middle of the road protection wise (between girdle and pro pant I guess), but are still very flexible and light. They are not bulky by any stretch of the imagination, and a shell fits over them beautifully. More protection than a girdle, very flexible and light, and I can change the shell. This could be a cost effective compromise to the girdle/pant dilemma.

I thinking about buying a girdle. Which one would be the better buy: the CCM Pro Hockey Girdle and the Nike Bauer Supreme One90 Hockey Girdle.

Thanks

since I've never used girdle I'm curious what is really the difference between XXX Lite pants & XXXX core pad other then the fact that one is called a pant & the other a girdle (and so doesn't have the shell)?

the description & overall construction of both looks really similar?

also when putting the girle on I'm assuming shell has to be always put separately? or is it possible to just pull it up like pants with the shell alredy on?

I bought the XXXX girdle about 3 months ago, IM IN LOVE.

Things I Like that pants dont have:

-Adjust leg straps every time to your comfort

-side velcro straps that bring the tailbone pad extremely tight

-a real snug tight fit, almost feels like your wearing a thick pair of shorts

Things i dont like:

i'm rather skinny (size 29' waist) and i wear a large :|

Having to put a pant cover every time.

All in all, i would never go back to normal pants. The Girdle just has a better fit for me anyways

The biggest difference are gonna be the leg straps. You can make them as tight or loose as you want around your thighs. The fit also may be a little more snug then the XXX pant even though they say the pant is designed with a girdle fit in mind. There may some new technology or something compared to the XXX since the core pad is more closely compared to the XXXX pants, but who knows. You assumed right about the shell, it needs to put on after the pants because of the thigh pads being adjustable and nothing adheres the shell and pant together. You just pull the shell on right after you tighten the girdle, it takes about 10 more seconds than normal.

A large? Are you really tall or what? Can you get it tight enough? I am a 30"/31" and I need to make sure it is staying tight every so often, but I also pull it up high since I am only 5'9", which makes it a little looser around the Velcro/belt.

I am around 5'11 1/2 and i have a 30/31" waist, and I wear a medium. My brother who's 6'1 with a 32" waist wears a large so I guess its how you like it fit, but mine seems to fit fine.

could someone please describe the differences between XXXX core pad & pant (except adjustable legs)?

are they the same in terms of weight?

also re sizing - would it be the same for both?

Vapor xxxx pad owners: How snug are the hip pads? I have a pair of one90 pants right now and I constantly get hip bruises because of the pads shifting around. I'm thinking of getting are girdle so the pads stay in place, but don't want to sacrifice a lot of protection.

I have the vapor xxxx girdle and the hip pads seemed okay, but i have been getting really big bruises on my hips lately so i took the shoulder caps off my old TPS contour shoulder pads. I attached them to the outside on top of the hip pads, and it has worked great, the girdle is great and i would never go back to pants or switch i just had a little problem with hip protection.

The XXXX pads stay in place better than the on90 however the one90 girdle stays in place better cause it fits closer ie more contour. I own both, prefer the mobility and form fit of the one90, lighter and cooler too

I had the One90 girdle for about a year and a half, then picked up the XXXX Core pad and I like it much better. It has a lot more protection, especially in the tailbone which is what I thought really lacked in the One90. I don't play in a checking league, but it's fairly competitive and physical at times and I like having the extra armor.

Since the upper part is built more like a pant, you can wear it looser around the legs - I usually leave them with some room to get better airflow. At first, it can feel slightly bulkier than the One90/95, but you'll get used to it quickly and the extra protection is worth it. No issues so far with hip protection either.

Overall, my only observation with girdles is they are definitely hotter - even the XXXX worn loose. If I wear pants with better airflow, I drink a lot less water during the game - it makes me wonder if the weight savings of the girdle is offset by the extra heat you'll feel wearing them.

not sure if this comment was specific to XXXX core pad, but I had One95 girdle/shell ever since they came out in April & find them play MUCH cooler then Bauer pants I had before - the entire rear panel on both the pant & the shell is perforated/mesh & so has very nice air flow

even the tailbone protection on this girdle is nice- not as thick as on most pants, but always stays in place & so protects just what it supposed to - I personally like it much more then bulky 'air' units on most high end bauer pants.

the vapor xxxx girdle was hot as first when i wore it but now i cant tell the difference. its just a different feeling have the velcro straps on your legs tight to you as opposed to the loose fitting of pants. now i can't tell the difference and the girdle is great.
