Tampa Bay and Jay Feaster part ways

I guess ownership really liked Dan Boyle.

Strange timing for this move. The guy goes out and hires a coach and all but cements the roster and then ownership turfs him?

I get the impression from the article that this was an open phase-out that has been in the works since the new ownership was anounced. Either that, or the PR dept should get huge bonuses for this one.

Boyle was talking abotu how disappointed he was with how everything was handled around his trade. Maybe Feaster really liked Boyle, and ownership MADE him trade him.

My hunch is you just hit the nail on the head. I'd heard Feaster talk up Boyle many times...

The more I think about it...the more I think he's the guy for Toronto. In his years as Asst GM, the team was out fo the playoffs...but his first year as GM, they made it to Round 2. And, a year later they won the Cup.

All the talk in Toronto is about Burke. But, really...what did he ever do in Vancouver? He had good teams, but never got over. He goes to Anaheim where most of the pieces were already in place. That team had already been to Final. He added a few players and eventually won.

The Toronto situation is much more like Tampa than Anaheim. They are building from the ground up...which Feaster has done successfully. Burke has stepped in and finished a job that's been started...but has he ever really built a team from Out of Playoffs to Cup Champs. I realize few guys have...but Feaster has.

Now, don't get me wrong...it's not like I want to see the Leafs win a Cup anytime soon (especially not before Montreal...) I'm just puttin' it out there.

My .02.

Toronto doesn't have anywhere near as much talent as Tampa had when Feaster got the job.

I realize that. But he's still an Architect type GM....Burke is more of a Hired gun to finish the job.

I agree with you on that. Feaster can make moves to significantly improve a team 2 or 3 yrs down the road. He also was capable of grabbing a good thing that came along even if only for a moment. I don't see him going to Toronto, because he would want to completely overhaul the whole organization...
