Hoffer 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2008 What does everyone think of this since there dollar is going up in value vs. the US dollar, also correct me if I am wrong but wont you be required to have a passport to go to Canada by this time next year.
kovalchuk71 212 Report post Posted July 15, 2008 They did it 3 years ago. Worked out great. Getting a passport is really easy. Takes around 9 weeks.
Hoffer 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2008 Ya but three years ago the American dollar was worth more than the Canadian and you didn’t need a passport to get there. And if you don’t already have a passport you will have to add another 100 dollars (if your above 16) to the expenses per a person to get there.
kovalchuk71 212 Report post Posted July 15, 2008 What are you talking about? It's a foreign country, you have always needed a passport to get into Canada
D-MaN88 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2008 Not true, usually a birth certificate and or social security card would get you over the border. NOW you need to have a passport, especially by the time NARCh Finals come around you'll need to have one.
Lufria 1 Report post Posted July 15, 2008 i'll attest to that. We passed through canada to get to New York for TORHS nationals, and we sat for 2 hours because one of our players did NOT have a passport.
D-MaN88 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2008 Like I said NOW you have to have one. But back in the day and before the last year-year and a half you never needed a passport.
Smitty34 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2008 This year, the finals are about 15 minutes from where I live. It was nice not having to travel very far, but I guess that'll change next year.
cougarscaptain87 12 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 in a car that looks like a drug dealers car, with 5 20 year old guys that are covered in tattoos, have odd hair colors and all that only one of us had a passport and we didnt get hasseled too much. you dont have to have one, but there may be a law by the time for narch
DavidT 11 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 You only need a passport to get into the states/Canada if you're going by air. Land or sea only requires you to have a valid state issued ID and preferrably a certified birth certificate with raised seal. No passport required to enter Canada same rules as for reentering the US. I've been to Canada numerous times this year back and forth and havent been stopped, turned back, or searched yet while awaiting my passport.Of course things could change between now and then.As for NARCH being in Toronto, I think it's great. Gives me a vacation with the Canadian side of the family.
JR Boucicaut 3801 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 Land travel is changing to passport, NEXUS card or the new Passport Card in Summer 2009.The Passport Card is geared towards those who live in border communities and can't be used for air travel. The NEXUS card is used by people who live in one country and work in the other. I got harassed because I ended up in the NEXUS lane one time going to Windsor.
