Need some advise on protectives

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm about to change my protectives (shin, elbow, shoulder).

Please tell me if there some gears that have some flaws or something wrong according to you.

The thing is that I don't have a shop around here that carry those high end gears, so I'm gonna order those on internet without trying them on before.

Simply looking at the pics on IWH.

So after searching here's my order :

Shin : Mission Fuel 130 (I'm looking for something wide, I loved the vector 10 but I read that the straps are not very well designed and indeed I can see that there's no strad that attach the upper of the leg). They look really good.

Shoulder : Itech 655 or 955 . I don't know if the 955 really worth the extra money ?? I want something light and a lot of mobility. I play with contact of course but I was doing good so far with my easton extrem  maybe the 255 would be good -> you tell me.

Elbow : CCM Vector 10 (I tried the rbk 9K and 5K, I really didn't like the middle strap that cross the inner of the elbow, it makes the pad uncomformy). The others elbow don't look good at least on the pics.

Thanks for reading

VD

I really don't like the rbk/jofa line, the shin guards have nothing special and the elbow pad do not fit me.

The shoulder look good but caps are not low profile

Here is my advice.

Shins: Fuel 130. An excellant choice if you like good protection and a wide pad. If you don't like the straps set up, cut the straps off and use shin pad tape to custom mount them on your legs the way you like. I used to always cut off the lower straps on my Jofa pads because I didn't like the positioning of them on my shins and use elastic velcro shin straps instead. I can put them anywhere on my lower leg I like then.

Shoulder Pads: The Itech 655 is great shoulder protection for most levels of hockey up to junior or college hockey. Unless your playing serious semi-pro you really don't need the 955 unless you a stickler for protection like me. I use every thing high end Jofa or Nike/Bauer but that's because I'm getting older and want the protection because I need to be able to get up and go to work in the morning. Before I had my Jofa shoulders I used the 655 for years with no problem. Itech shoulder pads are one of the most overlooked shoulder pads on the market but in my opinion make one of the best shoulder pads from the middle the line 655 to top of the line 955.

Elbow Pads: The CCM Vector 10 is an amazing elbow pad. Very protective and comfortable and does not slip off because of it's very efficient strapping system. It uses an elastic center strap over the middle of the inside of the elbow area much like the Nike/Bauer Vapor XXXX or the Supreme 1/90 elbow pad, and two outer straps for the bicep area and forearm. I like the rounded elbow cap a lot and the elbow lock donut inside. If I didn't use Jofa the Vector would be my elbow pad of choice. CCM is coming out with some fine equipment lately and I find the Vector line to be very good.
