So ive had these skates for months now, i skate in them 5 times a week without any problem, but lately on my right foot, the front/top of my ankle (forward flex) is aching and swollen, now i have to put sponge in there everytime i play, whats the deal with this, has anyone else experienced this?

my ankle is constantly in pain now from my skates..

This is what we all refer to as: Lace Bite

The remedy is to either stop skating or leave your laces loose at the top and use some tape in a wide pattern to hold your skates snug up top. I've had that condition quite a few times over the years. The trick is to concentrate the pressure from the laces over a wider area than 1/4 of an inch (the width of one lace).

My friend had real bad lacebite with his One90s. When you put them on your foot before you tie them swing you leg downwards and hit the floor with the heel of the blade/runner (sort of like a backwards kick). This will force your heel back into the correct position. Just remember not to kick too hard, its better to kick a couple times softly than one time too hard.

One90 skates are notorious for lacebite.

It is the retail tongue. It is poorly constructed.

The metatarsal guard is not good either.

In fact, the whole skate is poorly made. Weak tendon guard, bad tongue, bad metatarsal guard…

I'm trying to encourage one of my friends to stay away from the One90 and go for the One75 instead.

One75 are essentially an updated and improved One90.

Thats good info, i just picked up my one90's and now i'm concerned about lace bite. Would any of you know why, i didn't get any lace bite w/ the supreme's 70's and may get them with the one90's? Its not something that everybody experiences is it? I haven't skated on them yet, but i guess i'll find out sooner or later..

I've had mine just over 2-3 months, no lace bite. Although I seem to get pins and needles occasionally when I ride the pine too long at scrim. The biggest thing for me is before and during the lace up of the last 2-3 sets of eyelets I wiggle my leg forward to backward slightly. This loosens the laces up a small amount just so I can get comfy. I use wax laces and generally prefer a very snug lace up.

Its a fine line sometimes to get the lace up right.

If you have the correct fit and don't yank on the tendon guard when removing your skates then you should have no problems. I have had these skates for 2 years and have no problems with fit, protection or the tendon guard.

Just had my first skate in the one90's and didn't experience any pain in the front of my foot. Although i didn't feel the need to tighten the laces super tight. Fit felt nice. I'll update if lace bite starts becoming an issue.

I don't have these skates but with the skates i currently have, i had similar issues even a year after i bought them and were plenty broken in. I think they got so broken in that i no longer had to tighten them as much and slowly had to start lacing them up "looser", barely tugging on the laces at all and they are extremely comfortable doing so.

I have noticed that my custom s15's are so stiff that I tie them quite a bit looser than previous skates. Tight enough to prevent heel slippage, but the last 2-3 eyelets are hardly tightened at all. The s15 isnt deep enough for me, but I am having no problems at all with lace bite. One thing I learned QUICKLY when I started skating after 20+ yrs......the skates today are WAY stiffer than in my day, and require FAR less lace tightening. It is wierd at first, but I learned the hard way with some extremely sore feet.

Different Volume between the two skates.

Yeah after 3 skates, i love these skates. I liked the supreme70's but the toe caps were killing me. These fit just right, and i haven't had to tighten them too tight. If i start experiencing lace bite i'll update, but i haven't so far.

i had the same problem, i just bought new tounges and the problem was solved.

What kind of tongues did you have put in?

I have a SAVAGE case of lace bite - the first case in my life (33 years). The volume of my foot is standard and I have worn a Bauer skate for 95% of my hockey career - One 90's are super responsive, but the LB is unbearable.

I was going to have the new One95 tongue put in.

Have you done the pencil test to see if they are infact too shallow? Juse because you have worn a bauer skate forever, doesn't mean that the one90 would fit your foot volume. They fit very specific feet.
