Pocket in glove thumb...

Recommended Posts

So I realize this is probably a very stupid question, but I figure now that I've prefaced the question with that I'm less likely to get slammed.

Inside the thumb of gloves (at least the ones I've seen) there's the giant space for your thumb (duh...) but there's also a double layered piece of fabric that makes a pouch on the outer wall of the thumb. What I'm wondering is what is that space for? Is it just a second spot to put your thumb, or is it actually where you're supposed to stick your thumb and I've been wearing my gloves improperly for years...

Sorry once again for this question...

Some have it, some don't. I always assumed it was an option. Just like one-piece fingers used to be the norm, so were unarticulated thumbs.

Doesn't that pocket allow your hand to close/grip without the outer shell of the thumb moving...? I've put my thumb into the "extra" pouch...and when you close your hand tight...it moves the thumb padding.
