Hockey Schools/Camps

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I am 15 years old and I live in New Zealand.

I am wanting to go to a Hockey School or Camp in Northern America so I can improve my game.

I was wondering if any one had any info on Pursuit Of Excellence Hockey Academy, how good you have to be to attend it etc.

Also if you know of any other Hockey Schools/Camps that are good could you please tell me?

Thanks.

Check out Canlan Ice Hockey Camps! They have residential(like live on the campus), I have heard they run a good show. There is another one I know of, but can't recall the name right know!

@ Tbaby, that's the one in Kelowna isn't it? I don't think the players that attend are too "elite", but they're decent. That camp entered a team in a tournament I played in when I was a little younger than your age, and we killed them. If you want a high level camp, look into Peter Twist. He's the conditioning coach for the Vancouver Canucks and his camp is pretty competitive.

I went to Heartland Hockey camp as an adult, but knowing the owner of the camp, Steve Jensen, I'll bet the kids camps are just as good.

I wrote about my experience at Heartland Hockey camp in this thread.

The Heartland Hockey camp website:

Try searching for the words "hockey camp."

Thanks for the info guys!

Im looking for something a bit longer like 3+ months but that Heartland camp looks pretty good.

Im also not that sure of my level of game on a Northern American scale. Im a national rep in New Zealand and I am a reserve for the N.Z U18 team, so if anyone knows how good that is on a Northern America scale?

Thats why im looking at the Pursuit Of Excellence School they say they compete in a competitve league and I can do my countries schooling system there which is good but I don't know if i would be good enougth for it as it says on the site its for the elite.

how was the heartland camp for beginners?? im just getting into hockey and i having a tough time finding skating or hockey classes in oklahoma

I'm assuming you're an adult (past high school). In the adult camp, the campers are divided into three groups: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. So if you're a beginner, don't worry. You can place yourself in the beginner section and the drills will be appropriate to your skill level. I did beginner my first year and also my second year (I was going to move up to intermediate, but my friend wanted to do beginner). The instructors started off with a lot of skating drills to get people warmed up.

Thanks for the info guys!

I don't know about the Pursuit of Excellence school, but for Heartland Hockey Camp, there are three levels for high school players: High School, High School Select, and High School Super Select. You can email Coach Steve Jensen to find out which level is appropriate for you.

Check out the Okanagan Hockey School IDT (Internationl Development Tournament) camps. I believe that it is a 2 week program where the players do a tournament/hockey school combined. The participants must stay in the dorms for the duration of the program. I had SHTR at the "elite" camp last summer and can't say enough about what he got out of that short time period.

The IDT kids were at the rink before and after my son. There was a kid from Japan that we saw every day. How did we know he wasn't local? Very little englilsh and the airline tags on his equipment :-)
