heat molding

Recommended Posts

hello. I just got my son a new pair of Bauer Vapor XXXX skates. he is 7 yrs old and they are youth size 12.5. Ive got conflicting reports about heat molding these skates. One store told me,they arent the same as the junior or senior Vapors, and are not meant to be heat molded, and it would be a waste of time. Another store told me they COULD be heat molded, and yet another store said they usually dont heat mold youth skates, but could if they bothered him. This is his second pair of Vapor XXXX skates and the first pair were heat molded, although the store I got them at have kids working there who sell tennis rackets one day and skates the next. The store I got the new ones at is called Hockey Experts, and are strictly a hockey store. They said not to heat mold them. Anyone else have these skates,or know anything about them?

welcome to the board! (normally if it wasn't your first post you'd get "use the search dammit" ;)

I asked similar (a bit more generic without specifying the model number) question recently:

http://www.modsquadhockey.com/forums/index...hl=youth+baking

I got my son S15 and can say with confidence - they're completely different from SR & JR models & even though they COULD probably withstand heat molding it'd have very little effect on the fitting (other then making skates softer in general)

youth skates are quite soft, and use different matherials so I'd say they don't benefit from heat molding.

If anyone could help, I would appreciate it. My son is 7, and unfortunately inherited my wide feet. I am having a really hard time finding him a youth skate that is comfortable for him in width. Presently he skates in CCM Vector 6's, in a size 12, but the width kills him after an hour. He has tried on Nike Bauer Flexlites, and the newer one 55's, both were still too narrow. Are any youth skates built on a wider last? He hasn't tried the Eastons yet, but if anyone could reccomend a wider skate, I would appreciate it. There is so little information on youth skates that I could find. Nothing like the tons of info we find here for adult skates.

even with his wide feet are you sure it's the skate width. Parents usually have to tie little kids skates and it seems they are always cranking down on the laces. I know when my skates are tied just a little to tight they make my feet (usually my arches) cramp up.

That is a good point, and I have been guilty of tying them too tight in the past. Either way though, even loosely tied he still complains about the width.

I'd definitely say eastons are wider fitting - my 6 years old wouldn't even fit into narrow & shallow bauers with regular D width but is fine with S15

BUT if you were to go & get higher end Bauer models (XXXX for instance or even XXV) then they come in EE width - something I didn't have a chance to explore but theoretically it could work.

Thanks for all the input everyone. However, the vapor XXXX i bought had the blade on the left skate mounted crooked, ttok them back, they had two more pairs in his size, all three pairs had blades mounted incorrectly. Tried on the Stealth S15 skates and he LOVES them. Problem solved.

Also,to Chrisq19, the Graf 301 skates were by far the widest skate we tried on,the Bauer and Eastons were the snuggest fit.
