ITC to play Juniors

Recommended Posts

So due to me not hvaing played hockey in Canada before and being over 18 i have now been told that i need an ITC to play Jr B hockey here, that's $2500 per season i play. So by the time im done in Jr's that's $7500.

I could understnad if it was Major Junior or some kind of pro team but seriously, an ITC for Jr B?!?!?!?! Im a CITIZEN!!!

Rant over.

So im moving back to England to play in the good old English National League!

If you are a citizen of Canada, I do not see the problem. They are pretty strict, on both sides of the canadian/us line about getting PAID to play hockey, but Jr B should not be that sort of problem.

If you are good, how about coming down to the US to play Jr B. There are some good leagues, like the Empire lieague. I know there was some special US legislation pushed thru by Olympia Snow of Maine to help let Canadian players over the boarder to play hockey--specifically to help out the Lewiston Maineiacs team which was having trouble getting players in and out of the country for regular season travel games.

Who does the $2500 go to? An Internation Transfer Card must be signed by a players former IIHF member, the new IIHF member (in your case Hockey Canada) and then forwarded to the IIHF. Is it the English IIHF charging $2500 to basically sign your release??? I'm not following, even that ridiculous amount would be a one time fee-not every season.

You can appeal to the IIHF directly to approve your transfer without the former member countries signature.

The same transfer regs apply to all IIHF members, which is USAHockey in the States-sliding down there is not an option. I suggest you contact HC directly-ask for advice, tell them you do not want to play in a non sanctioned Junior league. HC is waging war with Outlaw leagues in Canada, they will not allow a player to get screwed over and forced to enroll in an non-HC league.

I tried that.

All three parties get a piece of the $2500. They says its because ive never played in Canada before. I could understand too if i was going to paid more than gas money.

EIHA only gets $250 of that.

International transfer fees shall be as follows:

a) Total fee for incoming transfer may be a maximum of two thousand four

hundred dollars ($2,400). Please note that in some cases the following

components of the costs may not be required:

i) IIHF Card (generally only for players eighteen

(18) years of age or over) . . . . . . . . . . . . . .eight hundred dollars ($800)

ii) Hockey Canada Application Fee [branch retains five hundred dollars

($500)] . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .one thousand dollars ($1000)

iii) IIHF Fax Approval Fee (only if transfer approved by fax) . . . . . . . . . .

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .one hundred dollars ($100)

iv) Former Federation Transfer Fee (some

Federations may not charge or charge a reduced rate) . . . . . . . . . .

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .five hundred dollars ($500)

v) Hockey Canada fees and Branch fees [Regulation K.25 (a)(ii)] do not

apply to girls and/or women playing Female hockey.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fees are one time, not each season-still outrageous. Request transfer costs be waived by HC and IIHF, call HC directly....point out that preventing you from playing is contrary to HC's Mission Statement. HC is very approachable for an org its size, from my experience they will look after you if its at all possible. I am pm'ing you a contact at HC's Ottawa office.

Yup, and all of the fees apply. Jr B is roughly ENL standard which im not too fussed about coming home.

It means that ill be able to go back into education and do something with my life lol.

Im a Canadian with an Irish passport. I live and work in the UK and pay taxes in the UK yet I had to pay close to 1000 pounds to play in the ENL, which is a glorified houseleague. Makes me sick to my stomach as I am a citizen of the EU and its pure discrimination. Problem is no one has the balls to challenge it under EU law. I feel for ya bud but seeing as I had to pay it for the ENL Im glad that our leagues r charging the same for British guys.

Yeah but that is seniors, this was for Juniors. I do agree to an extent about the fees in a PRO league but the ENL is not that.

Who do you play for? Why didnt the team pay it?

It is a nice little earner for the IIHF.

The UK ELITE teams have 10/11 North Americans each so that is £10,000+ per club that goes to the IIHF for the ITCs. It is a scam but the ELITE league teams alone would be paying £100K plus to the IIHF so you can see why the IIHF like it. There was talk about a challenge but the IIHF can make things very difficult for a player/club/country that tries to challenge them.

I played for the Nottingham Lions last season. The club is run and paid for by the players so the club could not afford to pay for my ITC card. I have no objections to charging the Elite League players as they are paid to play and it is a professional league but the ENL is basically an amature league for guys who still want to play competitive hockey but who are not good enough to play pro. Going to another club who would pay for my ITC card was not an option due to the fact that like many players in this league my job is based in the city that I live in. Anyway Ice hockey UK is one of the poorest organizations Ive ever played in. I arrived in the UK in September and it took them 3 months to sort out an ITC card for me. I missed half the season and they still expected me to fork over the full amount. Never got an apology or an explination. Ive come to the conclusion that outside London nothing in this country ever gets done ontime or properly, lol.
