Helmet with good ventilation (not intake)

Recommended Posts

Generally speaking.

If helmet X has better airflow than helmet Y without a cage, X will be better than Y with one.

Any pics of the X helmet? Sounds nice. Who makes it? Price?

I am getting the s9 in the mail Thursday. I will write a little review on its ventilation. I have the 3500 and sweat is always dripping in my face....I do sweat a ton though...and hoping the s9 is better.

Shields don't work that way, typically a helmet will be warmer with a shield. In which case, it should be stated if you have a shield on it. This is why I compare my helmets without any face protection or ear guards(and I try to get a hair cut), level playing field.

In fact, the only time I found that the 9500 was close to the S9 as far as sweat issues, was without a shield and with a fresh haircut. Two weeks later and it was a sweat box again.

I used to wear the itech face visor but got no airflow so I changed to a cage, this improved some things a bit

I played about 10 years ago and wore the old CCMs (I think they are equivalent to the 652, it was the one every player was wearing in the 80s/early 90s) and they had better airflow than the 5500

I'm only in a local beer league (military base league) so I don't know if the 9500 or the s17 would be in my price range.

Of course, of all hockey equipment, I think the skates and helmet are the 2 most important pieces so if I need to spend the money to feel comfortable, I probably will

I currently use an old CCM XHT 200 from 1998. I was hoping to find something with more air-flow and that might be a bit more comfortable. I have a 7 3/8 inch hat size. I was going to try a new S17 or S9 to see the fit so I tried on an Easton S9 at the LHS Saturday and it felt like it was pinching on the sides of my head above my ears and felt a bit loose on my forehead and at the base of my skull. I thought Easton helmets fit wider heads. Is it worth searching for an S17 to see if the fit is different or for a NB9500 in my size to try on if the Easton didn't seem wide enough already? I currently also wear an UnderArmor skull cap to keep the sweat from dripping on my visor. And does anyone know if this visor would fit on a size L 9500 or size L S17?

I don't want to thread jack so if this needs it's own thread, mods, please feel free to delete.

Thanks for the reply. I picked up a 5500 combo tonight. The fit was very comfortable. Tried on the Easton S9 but it felt tight at the back of the helmet.

The 5500 replaces a CCM M-HT2 from 1993!
