Chicago Hotels

Recommended Posts

I am planning to drive to Chicago to spend the weekend with my girlfriend, anyone has any recommendation for a hotel (a reasonably nice one that is in a safe area)? We'll be doing what 1st timers to Chicago do, Magnificent Mile etc2. I found a good deal for a hotel near O'hare, is that too far away from the downtown area? Also, I heard that driving in Chicago sucks so do you recommend I park somewhere and take the public transport?

Most of the hotels on Michigan ave can be pricey but there are some good hotels a couple blocks east of michigan along the lake that arent bad. Priceline is really good for finding hotels in the downtown area. If you do end up staying at Ohare area, find out if your hotel has a airport shuttle because you can get on the blue line and head anywhere around the city on the trains. If you must drive, the city streets are not too bad if youre used to traffic the freeways are worse at different times of the day but I would recommend parking the car once you get to the hotel and use public transport or cabs since they're much easier

keep in mind if you do get a hotel downtown there will be steep additional nightly parking fees. SOmetimes you can find good off-season deals in the city. My girlfriend's grandparents used to stay at the Best Western River North, i don't know the prices but it was an decent central location.

O'hair is cheaper, but the blueline rides will be roughly 30-60 minutes depending on where you are going.

Don't forget to check out Hawks Quarters on Michigan. If you're interested in seeing beer league hockey there is Johnny's Ice House near the United center. There is a small bar above the ice too.

oh yeah, yes the highways suck and downtown can be during the rush hours. So the L is a good option. Cabs are plentiful downtown too, that can get expensive but they are pretty convenient.
