Making skates bigger

Recommended Posts

this is a bit of a daft question, i have a pair of skates at home that aren't long enough, by a couple of millimeters.

Is there any way that i could make them a bit longer? would baking them help? If this is as daft as i think it is then give me a big fat NO and close it but if anyone has any help it would be appreciated.

Thanks.

BTW ~ the skates are vapor XVI.

Yes, you could allways have them stretched for length.

I had the same problem with a pair of S15s, i cut some dense cardboard into a square about an inch square and maybe the height of the insole that was in the boot and put it under the insole right at the heel, made a huge amount of difference for me. Might work for you as well.

I love the fact that he's actually at the undeniably BEST LHS to the whole of the UK, and they can't help, try going to your local "pro" team. They should have all the equiptment needed to stretch boots.

At my LHS, they said this could not be done and recommended i buy a new pair of skates.

Get a new LHS!

Not every shop has the equipment required to do this kind of modification and the demand for it is very low.

quick question because i didn't want to start a new thread... how much difference in width and length does going up 1/2 a size make?

While this is shoe and not skate size, it should give you an idea about differences in sizing.

Fair enough ! I must admit that I didn't notice that he is from the U.K. until after I had posted. I guess that I am spoiled living in Canada, as around here, that equipment is very common. :)

Before you go through all the stretching trouble and that(because you can't go back), if it is only a couple millimeters, if the skates are NEW try skating in them a few more times. As they break in the heel pocket will get a little bit deeper which may be good enough for you. You can also use a hair dryer to just heat the heel pocket and deepen it by kicking your heels back. One of those may work, especially if the skates are fairly new.
