Nike Bauer Roller Hockey Gear 2009?

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I was wondering if anybody has heard anything about NikeBauerHockey's 2009 line for roller hockey. I've called around to some of the big internet hockey shops and a few people have told me that they are not producing roller hockey skates for 2009. Is this true?

Thanks!

Since they recently acquired Mission and are letting the Mission Roller line continue it wouldn't suprise me if they were discontinuing their own Roller line

Alt, they would have been working on skates very far in advance of buying mission. 09 inlines would probably still be labeled nikebauer, not bauer.

I didn't even know NBH still made inlines. Head in the sand, I guess.

True, however; they also may have been negotiating with Mission far in advance of finalizing the deal. Or had at least some internal inclination that they'd make that move so that may have prompted them to scrap their inline lineup...that's just speculation of course. Only someone who works for Bauer or who's received inside information can truly provide the answer.

NBH didn't aquire Mission; only Bauer, no Nike swoosh in it

Yes, that was another big change over the last year so perhaps it was simply a case of the new Bauer owners not wanting to have a roller line. Then they later ended up with a roller line anyway when Bauer bought Mission and are keeping it since Mission was the market leader in that category.

It's just Bauer Hockey again; Nike sold them to an investment group earlier this year. Bauer then agreed to buy Mission-Itech. Mission will close it's production location by mid 2009.

Some of Mission's facilities will be shut down (the icehockey focused ones - and all the mission ice and protective would be discountinued after this year), but from the Bauer buys Mission discussion thread my understanding was Bauer Hockey would keep the Mission Roller facilities in California running and would keep the Mission brand for roller for the time being. That may change going forward, but that's the way I understood it...feel free to read through that big thread and correct me if I misunderstood.

Actually, Per the actual agreement Bauer is permitted to use the nike swoosh and name for one to two years. I beleive it is two but if someone wants to google the article it is listed there.

The last products to bear the swoosh are already out, this coming spring release of the new Vapor line is the first new product without the swoosh.

Mission roller is being left alone to do their thing. The new investment group said that they would not pursue roller hockey when the initial acquisition happened. Mission will fill that gap in the product portfolio.
