guitar problem

Recommended Posts

i have an epi lp-100 ,ive had it for about a month ,the neck pickups will stop sometimes and it sounds like fudge when i switch pickups ,i switched strings and now it sounds outta tune but its in tune and theres huge fret buzz even if i adjust the action on it. i look down the fretboard and it looks perfectly level ,right now i keep it on a stand but i used to keep it in the cardboard box it came in.....my room is very hot on sunny days because the sun shines directly on my room .im mad because im in a band and when i switch from the bridge to the neck pickups for solos it sounds suuuuper bad and wrecks the songs and sometimes halfway through solos itll just cut out so now i cant play solos because i have to use the neck pickups for them ,i tried asking the guitar.com forum this but theyre mostly all stuck up and call me a "noob" and they dont help at all

thanks for your time :D

When you switched strings do you fuss with the bridge saddles at all or change the string guage that you were using? If the answer is yes to either one of those questions then you have likely altered the intonation of your instrument causing it to sound out of tune when it is in fact in tune. Also keep in mind that certian chords will naturally sound slightly out tune even though the guitar is set up perfectly.

As for your pickup issues, you may have developed a wiring problem or simply have a bad solder joint. It's also possible that your switch has got some crud in it. If your not familiar enough with electronics and the workings of a guitar, your best bet is to take it to a professional repair shop and have it looked at.

i made the bridge higher and the saddles lower so the saddles dont dig into the strings as much because i heard its a big problem with tune-o bridges so i just lowered the saddles a bit

i dont think theres much crud in the switch because the only thing thats ever tuched it was my hands and the inside of that case.

Pickup problem sounds like a cold solder joint, any decent shop should be able to locate and fix it in an hour or so.

As for the buzz, it's hard to say without seeing it and hearing where the buzz is coming from.

Like Chadd and Jay mentioned, definatly solder joint, or worn pickup selecter (you get kids who come to the stores and flick the shit outa them). As for the buss check your nut, sometimes when you buy a new guitar the nut is made for heavier/lighter string gauges. My buddy recently bought a Schecter C-1 and he put on his Gibson Brite Wires on it (.09) but the nut was specially made for heavier guage strings and it caused buzzing.
