What Skates to buy.

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys, i would love to get some advice from you more experienced Skaters than myself on here about which Skates to buy next, Im Currently Skateing in CCm Vector 6SE (which are getting a bit tatty and a lot of wear and tear on them), and Skate about 3-4 times a week for 2 hours at a time, and i am also about to take up our local Rinks "Hockey for all" training on Sunday mornings.

I have a Budget of approx U.S $600 - GBP £300, and i am considering Buying either Graf Ultra G5s or Bauer XXII, i would very much appreciate some advice from anybody who has Skated in any of the above mentioned Skates.

Thank you everyone for your help. :)

Myself and user pg-1000 play at hockey for all every Sunday morning.

See you there soon ;)

I might be wrong, but hasn't Hoppy's got the Bauer XXII's in? Also have the CCM U+ but I don't know how much they cost. If Hoppy's have them it would be worth trying them on.

If you end up buying from the internet, which you probably will since our selction in Scotland sucks. Try get a proper feet measurement done in Hoppy's before ordering a size, just to be more sure that they will fit your feet when they arrive.

Not to go too far OT, but...

My god, where was this program when I was living in Glasgow? I had to settle for grabbing a couple of other Canuck 'ringers' and taking over the shinny in Paisely with borrowed gear...

Is hockey really taking off in Scotland these days?

My honest advice would be to take a weekend trip to one of the bigger hockey countries (Germany, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland) on a cheap RyanAir flight out of Prestwick (or whatever), and do all your shopping in one big weekend spree there. Try to hit a couple of pro team sales, too - that's where you can get insane deals on top-notch gear. I know a couple of goalies in the UK who paid maybe a hundred quid or so for a set of pads and gloves at team sales...

Definately not. All people do is complain about how hockey sucks in Scotland compared to how awesome it used to be years ago.

There is one Scottish team in the British Elite League, which is top level of play in the UK, and I seen on the new yesterday that they are really struggling to stay alive right now. I wish hockey would take off and become alot more popular but it diesn't look likely at all :(

Dude, the exchange rate sucks right now, compared to what it used to anyway. Hello British recession! :(

Just try on the XXII and if they fit well, go for it! If you can get a pair of those to fit really well from the store, you are not going to get a skate to fit as well as that from buying online ;) Those are damn good skates!

They always cater for beginners, it ain't called hockey for all for nothing haha. Yeah, but seriously, you have been skating for a year, some people there skated maybe once and then decided to try and play hockey. So I think you will come in pick it up quickly to be honest. Since Gary and Andy took it over it has been better because we are getting far more ice time and it seems to be a much better laugh and stuff. You will definately enjoy it, come along this week and get stuck in!

Ill be there next Sunday, thats when i should have some money again, by the time i get taxis to get my gear in,( im only 10 mins or less walk from the rink aswell) and i think its £10 for the Hockey, i cant wait to get started again though, i know Derek that goes to.

Thank you for letting me know what its like now it sounds fun and a good laugh, compared to what it was like for me before, i got attitude off one guy because i was doing everything wrong (it was only my first time and i am 40 now and a bit slow) haha. and i was going offside all the time during the Scrimmage game.

hope to see you there, ill be the quiet nervous one with the vector6 se Skates with yellow laces haha :D

Based solely on value, the Graf is a much better choice. Obviously fit is the most important factor in your decision though.

They can get Swiss Grafs in the UK, right?

Might be better than getting Graf Canada and being SOL for warranty and customer service.
