Trooper 8 Report post Posted November 6, 2008 I have had to drastically reduce my role in the organization I coach for because I am going back for my MBA. Myself and the head coach had been together for 5 years and worked well together. I handled the defense and as assistant coach I could have more of a friendly relationship with the guys (they are college club). Last night they apparently had a meeting with one of our dmen who wasn't playing well recently. The head coach let the new assistant open the meeting since he was more or less the D coach. His first words:"So you really suck lately and don't know what you are doing out there..."Suffice it to say there was some stunned silence.Anyway, just an example of how there are so many more skills involved in coaching than just knowing some on-ice stuff. Aussie Joe 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2008 Its funny how in allot of sports the coaches with abnormally long tenures at clubs/teams are also amazing communicators. I think in most cases a higher coaching intelligence goes hand in hand with great communication technique.
