Video recording

Recommended Posts

I was looking for tips on recording a house league hockey game. I have a video camera but it's nothing special (Panasonic PV-GS300 3.1 megapixel). I think there will be problem recording through the glass (correct?). In order to record above the glass I would have to get higher and farther away plus there is netting for "stray" pucks. Do you guys have any suggestions or tips?

Thanks in advance

We film games through the glass without any problem. The only time that it seems to be an issue is if there is a smudge on the glass, because then the camera tends to focus on that. As long as you find a spot where the glass is fairly clear, you should be okay.

I do video review for a couple of the teams I coach.

glass isn't really a problem as long as it isn't too marked up

and you are only looking through one panel of glass as your shooting window.

getting rid of the netting --> if you can get rid of the auto focus you might be able to see past the netting, some parents that do the recording have been able to do it.

I have the previous gen of that camera and you should have a manual focus option if it becomes a problem. If you are zoomed out, your depth of field is pretty deep (things in focus at more distances) so it shouldn't be an issue. Once you zoom in, the dof gets shallower. Just zoom into center ice, let it focus, then turn it to manual focus and you should be good to go.

If you are doing video for coaching though, get up high so you can see as much of the play as possible.
