RBK 9k vs Pro Tacks (skate heel width)

Anyone have experience with RBK 9K's vs. CCM Pro Tacks skates?

I have the 9k's and they are a little looser in the heel than I would like.

It seems like I heard somewhere that Tacks were a bit narrower in the heel (or the 9K's are wider in the heel - whichever way you want to look at it)

If thats true, I'll spend some time hunting down some Pro Tacks.

Can anyone confirm?

Yes. RBK fits wider in the heel. Not sure how much narrower the Pro Tacks are, hopefully someone knows...

I'm currently using '07 9Ks after a relatively brief stint in Vector 10.0SE's. Before that I had gone through two pairs of the '06 CCM Pro Tacks. As far as the heel fit goes, the 9K is noticeably, but not significantly wider in the heel than the Pro Tacks, but you should also consider that the heel of the 9K is gonna be wider than the vast majority of skates out there. The Pump feature is meant to compensate for the room around the tendon/heel area. It's a different feel, for sure, but if pumped to a comfortable degree, you shouldn't have any problems.

Good luck finding a pair of Pro Tacks though... I've been hunting for over a year now, turning over every friggin' rock, but no luck yet.

I agree that the fit is a little different than most skates as there is very little padding in the heel. It sounds accurate that they want the pump bladders in the heel to take the place of the standard heel padding.

As as side question, I didnt get the 9k's heat fit. Any chance that heat fitting would snug up the heel any?

Nope, it will likely make it larger.
