Graf Ultra G Series Quality

Recommended Posts

I've searched and read through all the horror stories that plagued Graf skates a few years ago. Are there still major quality concerns and defects with the current line of Graf skates?

i can say that i have never seen a graf ultra G boot come back on warranty or anything as of yet, almost two years in now

i think the slight misalignments of outsoles scare people off, which is alright, yet i have never seen a problem so far

I've read and heard a lot of the rumors. I can tell you first hand that some of their quality control issues do exist. Look at the bladeholders and make sure they look centered on the boot. I bought a pair and they are not centered. I am making due. Also, they like to sell skates with bladeholders that come off of the outsole by several mm's, basically they don't fit on the outsole, too big, or misplaced. I have a buddy that works at a store and has seen a lot of issues come up with them. I purchased a pair online and had to return them because the outsole bed, the part the boot sits on was also off by several mm's near the toe cap area. It just looked horrible and lack of attention to detail by workers. How they can let that leave the factory is beyond me. With all that said, I still bought another pair because of my narrow feet and the boots are very comfortable, considering you get a quality pair. I believe they are getting by on their European counterpart reputation of years gone by and hopefully Graf Canada will take notice. I just wonder if the same quality and workmanship goes into a pair for retail as a pair made for a pro player. The quality and price don't equate.

I'm on the other side of the fence, never had a pair of Graf skates that have given me the slightest problem in quality issues or from a performance standpoint. I live in the Toronto area and have always carefully examined my skates before buyiing. I drive LHS nuts because I'll come back several times before actually buying a pair of blades. It's just the way I've always done it since picking up a pair of bad Bauers when I was twelve. Anyway Grafs have been one of the best skates I've ever owned for durability, with top end CCM/Reeboks a close second.

As far as the G series is concerned I heard the first new offerings had problems with lamination comiing apart from the outsoles. Graf researched the problem and quickly found there was a problem with the manufacturing process and immediately toke steps to rectify the way they where produced. Since then there have been no reports of any more separation problems of the lamination. As far as rivets lifting and creating a splace between the holder and the outsole, this is a problem faced by many skate manufacturers from time to time and can be easily remedied at a LHS repair shop.

I have occasional rivet problems with my RBK's...that doesn't concern me. Boot quality however, would be more concerning. Thanks for the feedback.

I am about to buy a pair of Graf's. Was gonna go custom, but found the G35 to fit almost perfectly. I live in Calgary, and work about 5 minutes from Graf Canada. I had concerns about the quality as well. My LHS had all the Ultra's and some Supra's in stock. All G series skates had holders that were mounted flush to the boot with proper allignment. This same store sold 38 pairs of Graf Ultra series boots over 13 months with only 1 pair returned due to a broken Cobra 3000 runner.

you can get and LHS to do that for you.. and yes it does eliminate the warranty but worse case keep the original blade on the grafs so if something does happen to them you can just put them back on.

I read the same customer service issues on this site before buying as well. Have my 709's for almost 1 year and no issues. Love em. I would add that you should buy them from a LHS if you can. I went to a dealer who specializes in Graf.
