RBK 5K pads really do what they say?

Recommended Posts

They say the the floating sternum and shoulder blade pads help with mobility but have added protection. It seems to me that having that many moving pieces would make the pads kind of flimsy and make them less protective. I was looking at the 6k's since thier on sale and saw these for a 10 bucks less. Figured if the help with mobility and don't scarifice portection with all those moving pieces I'll get those instead.

The 5Ks arent flimsy at all! One of the most protective shoulder pads you can buy! The floating sternum is not really "floating" its just an added piece of hard plastic thats only attached at the top and bottom. Its slightly bowed outwards so it disperses the energy from a hit. There are not many moving parts its a simple but proven Jofa design!

Yea, I'm familiar with the floating sternum. It's the floating shoulder blade pads that worried me a little. I may just go ahead and get these instead of 6k's I was originally looking at.

In my opinion Jofa makes the best shoulder protection on the market. I wear the 8K's and they are phenominal. Not the lowest profile on the market but every bit as light as most of it's high end competitors shoulder pads. I would wear the 5k's and wouldn't have any reservations about them. They are every bit as good as a lot of the higher level shoulder pads of other manufacturers . The 6K shoulder caps are different than the 5's but are every bit as protective. They use the older CCM type shoulder cap that were on their Pro Tack shoulder pads as well as their 952's down to the 652's. RBK/Jofa have done a lot of research on their shoulder protection and are currently the number one used in the professional hockey leagues around the world. They are highly recommended by most of the equipment managers I have ever spoken to at higher levels of hockey.
