Putting together a 2 piece stick?

Recommended Posts

Okay, this might sound like a very silly/amateur question to most off you, but can you help me understand how to put together a 2 piece stick, correct me below if I am wrong?

From what I understand, the blade itself has glue on it, I have to heat up the lower shaft area and then the blade and shove the blade in the shaft and reheat the shaft a little bit more and let it cool? This apply to both standard and tapered blades?

I tried searching on this site and google but nothing gave me a definite answer. I have always been a OPS guy and only started to play hockey about 8 years ago and seriously into the game about 2-3 years now. I have never seen it done before.

I do not want to do it wrong and waste money, as I am tight on cash right now.

Thank you for you help.

Yes, you gotta heat the glue on the blade tenon, and insert it into the shaft and let cool..simple as that

Be sure to use a Heat Gun, instead of a Blow Torch, cuz the torch Can and Will damage the shaft. If it's a wood blade, a torch Can be used, but just on the glue/tenon.

1. Heat up existing glue on blade, this should be enough

2. If it's gonna be a tight fit, heat up the shaft a bit

3. Put blade in

4. If it wiggles around a bit, put tape over both opposite sides, and then try it again

5. Let it cool before you use it...should cool down fairly quickly so don't be paranoid about it

Stove works too if you dont have a heat gun. ^_^

or a hair blow dryer that has a significant amount of watts. my mom has an old one lying around that can get pretty warm (warm enough after leaving it on for about 3 minutes to where the glue heats up) that i've used since i was 12.

i usually just heat the bottom half of the shaft up for maybe 3-5 minutes (with a couple power shortages in the room that i'm in.. haha the lights turn off and i gotta reset from the utility box) going over each side of the shaft for about 1-1.5 minutes.. and then when it gets hot enough to where i pull my hand away after touching it.. i throw a towel over that portion of the shaft and insert the blade and it slides right in and if it's still not warm enough to where the blade goes in all the way (if i can get it half way in).. i run the hair dryer over the shaft for about 45 seconds.. and just slowly push in.. then i run over the bottom of the shaft with cold water to cool it off or just leave it be.

or if it's in the winter.. i just put the shaft blade first into a mound of snow and let it cool.

That link is to the video comparing the flex of the grips to wooden extensions.

This link is to the video for installing.

good vid you can easily understand and just follow instructions but pertain them to a blade instead of the grip.

BUT.. i heard him say "gloves.. latex gloves" and i'm thinking.."fuck if that heat gun gets too hott.. and you touch the shaft.. " heat+latex+skin=insane burn.

i'd at least use gloves that are cloth of some sort.. or construction/leather gloves. that would give you protection.
