NHL player with wood stick

Recommended Posts

wellwood did a bit on canucks.com a while ago saying that he uses wood sticks

dunno about the vapor xxxx he's using now, might be shaft/blade might be wood.

Strange he would say that. I have been following his career for the past few years and I have never seen a wood stick for him. I have seen many "sample" OPS and shaft/blade combos though. His personal favourite was the Koho Torpedo with Bauer Supreme wood blade. Its too bad when he left the Maple Leafs were still in the stick racks.

I believe he is currently using a Mission Ti shaft with Bauer wood blade ?

Spezza has already gotten rid of the OPS and now uses a comp. shaft and wood blade.

Naslund still uses a painted up woodie, too, last I heard.

Naslund uses a composite stick with a wood plug that is shaved down to his liking.

Is it true that the fastest recorded slapshots ever were done by Bobby Hull using wood sticks at about 120mph? Goalies used to FEAR him for his hard shot after he started curving his blades. I think goalies started wearing helmets because of his shot and their fear of a headshot/death.

I think there is plenty of reason NOT to use composite sticks. I love em for their weight but based on the above, it appears they are also a hinderance to performance.

the mission one is the stick he was interviewed on and he said it was wood

he's using either a painted vapor xxxx wood or a vapor xxxx shaft and bauer blade

It is a vapor xxxx shaft with a wooden blade. thats for sure he doesnt have it painted to look like a OPS so you can see the wood blade clearly.

He switched to this from his mission shaft about 2 weeks after mission was bought by Bauer

he also stopped wearing an intake and started wearing a 9500 at this time

A few weeks ago during a Ranger game I believe Micheletti said that Naslund just switched to Composites recently because he finally found one that feels as good as wood.

closer up picture on Rangers website shows that it says supreme one95, just incase anyone was curious.

However for some reason it kind of does look like wood there.

I remember that. He said he had tried out numerous OPS's but never found one he liked until just this year. Here's a better pic:

I think composite sticks probably give a better shot to more players. Just because Bobby Hull could shoot that hard with a wood stick doesn't mean anybody or everybody could. I wonder how hard Bobby Hull's shot would have been if he was using a modern composite stick with the same pattern.
