roller to ice 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2008 i played in a ball hockey league for 9 years its a big deal in my town we play no contact unless its in progress towards the ball and not an obvious check to take some one out mid line off sides(our lines where different colors the redline was blue and blue line yellow) we had icing everything else was just normal 5vs. 5 hockey rules we have 2 rinks in our town each one has wood boards and we played on a lego type surface that is intended for warehouses so the snow and rain in the winter would fall through not sit on top good fun thats what got me in to roller hockey than in to ice
JoeyJ0506 192 Report post Posted December 21, 2008 Started off playing ball/Dek hockey after a long absence from physically playing the game of hockey. Some people might think it is a joke, but the game has a way of evening the playing field because anyone can just jump in and attempt to pick the game up without having to worry about getting full equipment and learning to skate. In my area it is played in leagues on a scaled down rink which makes for a pretty fast paced game when one would think it would be slow because of the lack of skates. I play ice and roller all the time now, but there are guys who I guarantee cannot skate or handle a puck that are in the ball hockey leagues of Pittsburgh who can turn me inside out and upside down in sneakers. I do not think it is a replacement for hockey on skates, but it is a great way to get people involved in the game of hockey who otherwise might not have the financial ability to do so.
