roller to ice 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2008 Has anyone ever used an abs blade for ice, and are there any advantages/disadvantages. I play in a ice mens league and play alot of open ice hockey. I want to use an abs blade because i still play alot of outdoor roller to practice and with friends who only play roller and do not want to deal with having and maintaining two different two piece sticks because i do not have the money and would have to compromise with one stick and buy a very low end shaft. habsfan87 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2008 they are very flexy I find and lose performance quite a bit, that being said dependant on how serious you are, people use them all the time.
Chadd 916 Report post Posted December 28, 2008 If you catch a puck out near the toe an ABS blade will quite often twist open.
texspeleo 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2008 I have an old Koho 2290 Crossover with an ABS blade that I picked up for a couple bucks at a garage sale on a whim. I loose a LOT off my shot and a little off my handling as compared to my wood Montreal Ultralight 9966C with a nearly identical curve (though a bit less lie-the Euro, I believe). My Easton Forsberg has the same lie and similar curve (not quite as deep as the Koho), but also handles much better than the ABS blade. I'm no Ovechkin, but even with my meager abilities the performance between the sticks is noticeably different. That Montreal is the nicest wood stick I've used, and can be had for around $25 new, FYI. Hope this is helpful.Cheers, Chris
Gummer12 134 Report post Posted December 28, 2008 plus it depends on your rink temp. My rink is hella cold, so abs is not the way to go, they get too brittle and rarely last a complete game.
roller to ice 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2008 Thanks guys and im most likely going to just pick up a wood stick with an abs blade for roller, and get a more high end stick for ice. Although i only play mens league and am no nhler by any stretch of the imagination i like to think i am half decent and semi serious and the abs doesnt sound like it would work out on ice. Thanks for the help i would of never thought of half the stuff you guys said.
