bauer vapor xxii skates

Recommended Posts

my skates are turning hard and crusty on the inside. I have used them for a few months and now i got blisters from not tightening them up the other day. How do i get them soft again? One guy said to shave the material with a razor blade..Any thoughts?

I know there is some information here regarding using Shaving Cream in new gloves http://www.modsquadhockey.com/forums/index...t=0&start=0. It might hold true for helping out skates as well.

DarkStar (post #20 in the above thread) breaks down what the SC is good for. I doubt the XXIIs are leather, but if they are maybe it is worth a shot.

i think the insides are some kinda microfibre...The xxxx are different, a smoother material and I think that is why they are more money. It's just stupid that they go all crusty after a few months of skating. I like dry skates but if this is the cost then I might start soaking them. Oh and I don't wear socks in my skates either. forgot to mention it. i have read that thread. I don't mean to repeat but the shave cream/leather conditioner isn't something i am prepared to do. I am leaning toward the shave cream but what do I do, rub it all over my stuff?

The XXXXs use a Clarino liner.

And my assumption would be to massage the SC in, but wait for someone more knowledgeable about it to either confirm or deny that.

shaving has lanolin (a moistureizor) that helps keep leather from harding. iused it on my baseball gloves. it also does not leave any extra weight. if you do use it rub it into the lining until it is all gone. apply some to a small area and work in. DO NOT use any shaving cream other than barbasol. the gels dont work very well. you countinue doing this until the lining softens up. not sure what the lining in the xxii are but if is a syntheic it should still work.

the vapor 22s have a microfibre inner lining, not sure if the shaving cream will help that.

i have the same skates and they're not turning crusty. perhaps you can just try washing the skates and gently scrubbing them with a mild soap.

Do you use heat to dry your skates? When I was little I would put my wet Eagle gloves next to my basement space heater and that crusted them up really good until I sweat through them in the next practice/game.

yes i wear thin socks (bauer performance skate socks or similar) with my skates. I don't dry my skates near heat, don't like what it does to the metal screws and the outers. i do remove the footbed and dry that on the radiator if it's really soaked. otherwise i just air dry.

this might help with your loose blade too, the expansion and contraction from being next to the fire and on the ice might be causing the nut to work loose.

pm me if you need any more help with your skates.
