Skate Help.

In response to the 9ks, no problems with the boot, but my left pump has failed and has a very slow leak. It is not too big a problem, I just have to pump it up after every shift or two back to where I like it.

The pump is a flat out gimmick I had a pair didn't wear there for more then a season and I try to make mine last at least 16 months. The Pumps provide next to no protection. Now in the skates defence I had the 7k's and they were the first year pumps so I don't know how far they have come.

the pump isnt designed to protect you at all, its to lock your heel in

the original 9ks were one of the only boots ive seen that put foot protection as a key feature.

the only warranty's i have seen have been for pump bladders

if you go for the xxv, you might want to try on a EE width boot. i had pain in the outside of my right foot along with numbness in my pinky toe in these boots in a D width. i've moved onto a EE width and the pain's gone. the xxv's were my first modern boots since some older leather tacks and bauers (circa 1998-2000)... the newer skates are much stiffer, so a good fit is a lot more important, since poor-fitting modern boots won't just "skate into shape" like older models would.

JC,

First, welcome back to hockey!

Second, assuming you are still looking and based on what you've said, I highly recommend Bauer Supreme 8090s IF you are lucky enough to spy a pair in your size. They are VERY difficult to find as they've been discontinued for a couple of years now, but keep an eye out for them on ebay, LHSs, etc. as you never know.

They fit like the older classic supreme series but the toe box is wider and more comfortable for wider feet. They are the best skates I have ever owned (went from a Supreme 3000 to Classic Gold to 8090) and are still going strong after 2 + years.

GOOD LUCK!
