European Grafs

Recommended Posts

I have a relative who is traveling through Germany and then to St. Petersburg. I think he is in Hanover, Germany for the next four or five days. I’m wondering if it is worth having a pair of Grafs shipped to his hotel from a LHS in Germany and is this even possible. He doesn’t know anything about hockey, so I couldn’t rely on him.

I mean this is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I shouldn’t give up, right considering all the bad things I heard about Graf Canada. How hard would it be to order a pair from the United States? Does anyone know of a local dealer in Germany or a website?

Finally, I wear 709’s. I know from reading through the threads that the European Grafs are different. Is there a F-series or Ultra- series boot that is comparable to the 709. Is this even cost effective?

Lots of questions, I know. Thanks for everyone’s help.

I know somebody who sells European model Grafs here (I'm currently in Ukraine).

Can find out if I can help. What model/size do you need? If you don't know the size for sure. I wouldn't recommend you going for it.

Not sure about shipping charges. When I was sending a pair of Jr. size 3.5 Vapors to HG for replacement, they charged me about $35 by Ukraine Post.

Or another option for you would be asking your relative to buy freom these guys in Moscow http://nsportc.ru/ and have them ship to you direct. Their e-mail address is a.goncharov@nsportc.ru

I'm pretty sure they should know English and must be taking cards. They're an exclusive distributor for Graf for Russia. Skates may be cheaper in Russia as most of official distribution for the frmr USSR goes through a Russian middleman.

Also, there's a company called SBK Hockey. E-mail to imetliskaya@sksgroup.ru. Maybe you can buy direct from either one of them direct if their distribution agreement allows that

Here is something that might help you with model selection:

Be careful: the 709 and G70 are NOT on the same last. The G70 is noticeably shallower across the arch and has a much more pronounced 735-esque heel. If you're borderline on depth in a 709, or have really big, undifferentiated heels, the G70 may not work for you.

IIRC, European Grafs fit wider than Canadian ones -- ie. a Swiss R-width is much wider than a Canadian R-width, roughly equivalent to Canadian W-width.

As to being better made, that seems to have been historically true of the 700-series (which was being made to fairly high old-school Swiss cobblers' standards), but I have no idea if it still holds for the Supra G and Ultra G-series.

I think the same, there is a big difference between swiss made graf and one from canada. I compared two 705 and believe me the canadian one was so much softer. tell me your size and the skate you want, I know the owner of the LHS very well maybe you will get a good price. And asking FedEx about the shipping costs wouldn't be the problem. So send me an PM and we could talk in detail. just could hope for you that you fit in an 11 Graf 709 than you won't have a problem, because this one you would get really cheap. Any other size we have to look up.

best regards

hannes
