Reebok 5K Pant (2009)

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Just got my hands on the new RBK 5K pants from a buddy of mine...thing is ive been wearing the same pant for so long, a CCM...i dont even know the model cuz the name is wiped off the sides and back..

Thing is i find these RBK's a little heavy and have way to much padding, but they are my size according to the sizing chart...its a medium, which is waist 32-36 (im about a 34-35) and heigt is 5'5 to 5'11 (im 5'8)

my old CCM's are so light, its insane...but im sure some of the caps have fallen out over the years...

since i havent switched pants in over 10 years, im just wondering, do pants have a "break in" period? or are these pants generally know to be bulky and heavy and "overpadded"?

can anyone share their experience with the 5k's please?

Thanks!

Pants absolutely do have a break-in period as with any other type of protective gear whose function includes mobility. But with that being said, if the equipment fit very well in the first place, the stiffness of the padding would be much less noticeable. Pants on the market now have changed a fair bit in the last decade and although the newer styles tend to feel bulky and heavy you have to trust they were designed with maneuverability and range of motion in mind. You also have to keep in mind that you have been wearing your previous pants for 10+ years and going straight into new pants with much more padding will take some time to get used to and I'm sure it will be a worthwhile process in the end.

Thanks for the reply bud, i'll trust your word...makes sense :)

I am playing in back to back games in an hour so have 3 hours of hockey, we'll see what does for the break in lol.

I've got a pair of 5k pants because I thought they felt lighter than the other ones at my LHS. They might not be as flexible as you want though. I've got the 2008 pair I think - they've got brownish gold colouring. Same size as yours.

They do have zippers on the insides of the legs that will help you move around a little more if you unzip them. I was looking for a light pant that I could move around in and the 5k's weren't under padded like lower end and weren't over padded like some of the higher end models for my uses.

They were one of the lightest and non bulky pants at my LHS, in my opinion anyways. They have been pretty durable so far after a season - no major problem areas at all.

Hope that helps!

I've got the 9k pants and after a month now when I did I found out what settings worked out the best this is really fantastic. In addition I was wearing them sometime at home when watching TV etc. which helped for brake in time.

If the 5k's don't work out for you and weight/mobility are your top priority, you should consider a girdle/shell combo. Just my 2 cents.

I have been wearing a girdle/shell combo all my time and I was actually looking for a new one too when deciding to buy something new.

But when trying the 9k pants I was very much surprised of the weight and mobility it delivers. Don't know the 5k pant but I'd suggest

trying out a 7k or 9k.

thanks for the tips guys,

after 3 hours of hockey i felt much better in them, but i will be trying on a couple of girdles to see if i feel better in those...

i tried on the 7 and 9k's and i didnt like how i had to strap a million straps just to get things fitting properly

i think im gonna wear the pants at home while watching tv :)
