Eric Cole's Unique stick taping...

Recommended Posts

Just bought the 3M Super 77 Spray. I am going to try it out with in the week, and post results.

Where did you end up finding some? I've checked a few local hardware shops and no luck.

You guys who tried it heard the part where he says "MOST IMPORTANT element is the spray", right?
Yep, my ears are fine. But Bauer isn't giving me a new stick after every one of my beer league games, so I need to be able to remove the tape once it rips.

Really? Bauer sends me a new custom one95 after every beer league game... you gotta get on that program :D

I bought mine at Home Hardware Store in Ontario. Let me know if you can't find any and I could mail you some....it was like $14.99 though!

I had some of the spray lying around. I have been having trouble with the tape sticking to my OPS. The 77 spray did not seem to make much of a difference in keeping the tape on. Halfway through th 1st last night, I had tape peeling off everywhere. Maybe I need to ditch the roll of tape and buy a new one!

i've been taping my stick like that since the 80's, for exactly the reason described - less running stick friction. everyone thinks i'm nuts of course, now i feel vindicated!! it gathers less snow too using the "linear tape method"

but there is one better on this. I now use a strip of 1mm LEATHER (instead of tape), using the super 77 adhesive or S301 dual sided tape.

i went to leather (prompted by the carbon stick) to improve feel, puck grip, wax absorption/retention.

so the materials equation is this:

hands->leather->carbon->leather->puck

PS CLEAN THE BLADE first with alcohol. Also use a heat gun to activate the adhesives after you apply the tape.

Amen to that. I found it at my store and picked it up figuring i'd give it a try and its messy if first starting out haha. My second stick i did pretty good with, but the first one was interesting.

I used the Cole tape job, adhesive, black 1.5 tape etc.. the other night, and noticed a huge difference. I felt a lot more glide on the ice with the puck then normal. I think i found my new tape job. By the way, another game tonight, and don't need to re-tape.

I just went the other way...ripped 1" tape in half and taped up my sticks and there are a TON of little ridges. Can't wait to try it out, but I'm off the ice until the doc gives me clearance.
