You should call Fairfax Ice Arena and see if any teams need a goalie. Website is http://www.fairfaxicearena.com/. There are a lot of Russians that play there, I believe there is actually an all Russian team there.

I think you might be thinking of Ashburn, they have a "russia house" team there.

I play at both Fairfax and Ballston. Ballston is your best bet if you are in arlington, it's the caps practice facility.

I would just go over there, our current season runs to around mid-late march, after that, there will be summer season.

Ask for Ben or Beth at the desk, they handle the hockey, and tell them your level, they will see about getting you on a team there.

Hope that helps

Any level that does not require travel commitment or multi day tournament play. Our baby daughter has special medical needs.

Highest level played before was USSR National under 14 in the early 80s.

Because of the age, juniors and below are probably out :-).

Thanks for the fast response.

Contact the local rinks, like I said, ballston is probably closest to you in ARlington, but I like how organized Fairfax is in terms of running the league (although they are tiny locker rooms!!!)

Todd at fairfax is a good guy, and will be able to place you with a team. You will do an evaluation/pickup game skate, then he will assign you to a skill level. By the sound of it you are going to be A-league.

No travel required, game once a week, for us, we play sunday mornings, afternoon, evenings or monday evenings.

Let me know if I can help with anything else

Will do and thanks for your help.

If your regular goalies can't make it, or you need an extra puck stopper for practice, please keep me in mind. I would be glad to sub. Your schedule sounds almost ideal.

Out of curiosity, language on your location, is it Gaelic?

Where I was born and raised, Donegal has a strong gaeltacht area (where Irish/gaelic is the native tongue, english is the second language). I was sent to the gaeltacht each year for school, where you could only speak Irish, school taught in Irish, shops only spoke Irish etc.

So I'm fluent in both english and Irish

How different is Irish Gaelic from Scottish Gaelic? My brother-in-law is from Edinburgh.

Similar but different. I also speak Ulster Irish (Irish at home is vaguely broken down into Ulster irish and Leinster Irish.

The leinster irish is more gramatically focused, and is what is taught in the schools.

Ulster Irish is more spoken Irish, like we speak in Gaeltacht areas.

A short example (and I have no fada key here, so fada's are omitted)

English:

Hello, how are you?

Leinster Irish:

Dia Duit, Conas ata tu

Ulster Irish:

Diamar, tu go maith? (which literally means "Hi, are you well/good", often just said as "Diamar"

No I do mean Fairfax, unless the team moved to Ashburn.
