Dented Outsole

Recommended Posts

After over six years of the same Custom+ holders on my Graf 703s, and nearly as long on the same steel, I realized that it was high time that I put something new under my boot. I ordered a new set of C+ holders and steel, but upon taking off the old plastic, I noticed something odd.

The outsole of the boot, which in the Supra 703 case is a hard rubber/plastic, is dented in where the rear corner of the holder met the boot. My guess is that this denting was from over-tightening the RMS screws, but cause aside, the fact is that there is a divot in the outsole.

Is this something that will affect the performance of a new holder, which hasn't gradually flexed into the dent? Is it cause for new skates? My concern is that a new holder, where the screw attaches to the boot, will have to bend into order to stay firmly fixed, and that this will in turn weaken the holder. Any advice, thoughts, or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks...

I had the same type of thing happen to my old 705's w/ Custom+ holders. I never really noticed it til I cracked one and and had it replaced, the white plastic sole of the skate seems soft and sort of molded/bent around where the holder bolted on (mine were attached using a few of the Graf screws and the rest rivets, it seemed to be worst where the screws were used). I never had any issues in 10+ years on them (the cracked holder wasn't related to the same area), had the one holder replaced and skated on it for another month or so without issue but recently (finally) bought myself some new skates so don't know how much longer they'd hold up one way or another.
