New Nike Hockey Line

Recommended Posts

you might want to check out epuck.com

they have the new nikes for pre-order, i wouldnt order them until someone writes a review for them though, cause its expensive to get them shipped to Singapore (where i live).

basically the new nikes go by the same name as the previous year's (Gator, Shadow, Hi Ho Silver), with a few upgrades in terms of the chassis... everything else looks the same though, just a different colour

hmm... inline hockey here is on the slight decline i guess...

a few years ago, when inline skates became popular, hockey was played in virtually every basketball court, open area... even those carparks. There were teams everywhere. I remember one tourny that we won, was a three on three tourny. They even got one of the most popular media artiste to be the MC for the event!!! :P

but after a couple of years, the number of teams started to decline, mainly due to the high cost of equipment (i guess). most of the retailers here make a helluva profit from those who dont buy online. imagine this scenario:

buy a pair of hockey skates locally: SGD$700-SGD$900 (gotta wait depending of stock avaiability)

buy the same skates online :SGD $500-SGD$600 (includes the shipping costs and the package arrives in a week, usually we buy from hockeygiant).

my team and i have been playing together for about 10 years... we have progressed from a team who wanted to be #1, to basically a team who plays recreationally for fun (and can still kick the a$$ of some of the younger teams). the guys i play with are mainly professionals, we've got a few engineers, some IT freaks, a caterer (great food during gatherings), and even a doctor (he even removes stiches on the court for you  ). most are married, and some including myself are working on the next generation of players

anyway, if we in singapore can hook up with some of the guys in the US or Canada, it may be easier for us to get equipment.

forgot about the rink!

there is one designated outdoor rink here in Singapore. Was built in 2001 only for hockey, however, you do get people who play soccer on the court, and it kills the nets!

also, you have the inconsiderate dog owner who walks the dog (and doesnt scoop)... you also have some drunks who sleep in the player's box the night before.. if you smell the alcohol its fine, but once you smell the 'processed' alcohol, you really feel like playing somewhere else. The penalty box becomes the trash area... so far i've noticed that the guys who play the night before leave a lot of crap behind, and the next day when we come to play, its a really bad sight.

The court is pretty open, so you tend to get really sun burnt by the end of the session. There is no shade, and very little breeze. Original ground was really smooth concrete, which was great, but now the've added some grippy surface to it, kills your wheels, puck and blade of the stick. This new surface really sucks, and there are cracks everywhere and an occasional pothole (yes, potholes the size of a puck.)

one thing about this place is that it had to be renovated as it wasnt built properly (side walls were only knee high originally)... the players box is totally fenced up, dunno if its a regulation or just built wrongly. Also the door for the players bench and penalty box opens into the court as well, so if you really cant stand that guy on the otehr team and he skates by your bench, just open it outwards if you really wanna nail him (we havent done that yet though)...also, the penalty box has room for only one person...

Wow.....sounds like where I used to play hockey as a kid before I moved to organised leagues and indoor rinks. It was just a tennis court where some assholes stole the nets so it made it easier for hockey players. You're right though the grip surface is murder on wheels and blades alike.
