How much to replace ProLite3 with Pitch Holder?

Recommended Posts

How much should it cost to replace a ProLite 3 holder with a Pitch holder? I am located on Long Island. Also, can someone recommend a LHS to do the work. I have the Pitch holder, so I only need the ProLite 3 taken off and the Pitch 3 put on (and of course whatever new holes need to be drilled).

If you have all the hardware, the only thing they should be charging you on is labor, and the rivets, coppers, t nuts, whatever your using.

Prices for labor will probably vary from store to store. My guess would be around 40$ total, may be way off though.

As far as a LHS store in Long Island area, I have absolutely no idea hahaha

I'm not from New York but I know there is a great little hockey shop on Manhattan. Dunno how easy it would be for you to get there. They do mostly skate repair, sharpening etc. And the bonus is they're really nice guys. It's called Westside Skate and Stick. They'd definately be able to replace your holders.

Westside Skate & Stick

174 Fifth Avenue, Fifth Floor Suite 504

New York, N.Y. 10010-5930

(between 22nd/23rd St.)

Phone: (212) 228-8400

Pretty hard to find. There was no clear signage at street level as to where it was except a tiny sign on the door. Great place though I bought tons they had all the little bits and pieces that are hard to find....even unlabelled inno shafts.

I would also be interested in this if anyone knows. Plus where can I pick up holders w/ steel at a good price? I checked hockeygiant and they have custom +'s w/ steel for $30 each. A lot of other sites it would be $30 for the holder and another $30 for the steel.

I emailed Westside Skate about changing out my Prolites to either Custom +'s or LS2's and the guy told me it would be $170 for the new holders, steel and labor. Seems really pricey.

Out here in Nor Cal I think most shops are charging about 65-70 to do a swap if you have all parts.

Going to experiment with the Tbolts on a pair of rollers as 40 seems fair but at 65-75 I just feel like I am getting screwed so I will try it my self first.

Doing it yourself isnt too difficult, and the tnuts and bolts are pretty cheap. I've done 3 mounts myself, 2 of them using tnuts, and the last one I did with countersunk screws (didnt have any more tnuts).

All function the same as riveting, but now I can swap chassis whenever I want.

Goddamn. Gold rivets I hope.

Ice is different from inline, you can mismount and bend the steel.

++ on both parts, that price is insanity and I've seen skates come into the shop with bent steel from a crooked holder, not a pretty sight.

That is exactlty what I thought when I saw the response email this morning. I asked one shope by me (not too sure about the quality of their work) and they said $120 for everything. So I thought I would shop around a bit more, but never expected a price that high.

Is hockeygiant the best place to order holders & runners? These prices don't seem bad. Then I would just need to find a decent shop to mount them.

The giant will mount new ones for you if you send them your skates; just call a rep and they'll tell you where to send it etc. I think the labor is going at ~$20 for that.

I'd say the reason those prices are so high is.....

$30 for each holder

$30 for each runner

and whatever they feel like for labour.

that's $120+labour

You can get cheaper in most places.

If you're ordering holders and steel to mount them yourself then probably cheapest to go with an online group like hockeygiant, hockeyworld etc.
