dontdumpdangle 0 Report post Posted March 19, 2009 Good point about the 1st rounders and draft picks. But that's more of a chance the scouts take on how players will develop when they come into the league. If a guy's managed to stay up out of the minors then he must be effective in some way shape or form.who is hal gill better than? are we talking scoring? probably nobody.....chris chelios? lol (I love cheli really)One on ones? Penalty kill? Puck moving? Better is a very general word in the context of this argument....Im talking about playing the position of defense and all that it entails. Chelios is old as hell, i dont think you can count him in this. He has been solid through out his career. So what's your name dontdump? When can we expect to see you in the NHL? Since you can beat an NHL defenseman 7 out of 10 times and all. you missed the post about im not that good
djm 0 Report post Posted March 19, 2009 As far as the scouts go. How many 1st rounders never made it? Better yet, how many first overall picks have never made it? More than you would think. Also, Gill was a very effective defenseman under the old rules but in todays nhl he doesn't match up. This would be interesting, tell me who Hal Gill is better than?Hal Gill would be a top pairing d-man on the Lightning. Seriously. Did he kick your dog or something? So he's better than lashoff, malik, meszaros, ranger? I am not familiar with the other d on the team but i doubt hes better. If Milan Mihalik has made the big squad, hal gill is better than him. I saw him play in an AHL game last year. I watched him closely because i had heard that he was supposed to be good and he was brutal.Side note: I love how I've some how turned a post about sportsmanship into a quest to validate Hal Gill's value in the NHL. I noticed that no one wants to defend colton orr haha.

Gill is better than Malik and Meszaros and Ranger are out for the year. Here are the Lightning's D men from their last game:Cory Murphy, Noah Welch, Matt Smaby, Lukas Krajick, Richard Petiot, Matt LashoffCory Murphy broke his foot and is out for the year. David Koci will probably take over for him unless they call someone up from Norfolk. I would take Gill over all of them with the exception of Smaby and maybe Lashoff. Dante2004 0 Report post Posted March 19, 2009 Some people will hold back a little a pick up and only play strong defense against the better players. Maybe after you worked a few guys, the other players started to step up their play against you. And what you noticed changing was a reaction to your skill level, rather than your selection of moves. I know I play real weak defense against the ankle benders. I don't want to be a jerk and just steal the puck from them right away. We are out there to get better. I won't let them get around me either, but at least I give them a chance. Then, when I am against a better player I will play stronger D. Now I'm old, slow, fat and lazy, so I most times I get burned. haha
Jackal_17 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2009 Just to add to the confusion a bit: (The Rick Nash goal)Rick Nash actually used 2 toe drags to get by the 2 Coyotes defencemen.
DoubleT96 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2009 Eff!!! Mine weren't nearly as sick as those!!!!!!!!! I completely forgot about that clip...not even taking in consideration the time left in the game, that was one of the sickest goals i've ever seen. How can you say the move is retarded after seeing that clip? And I don't want to hear any shit about "they played Nash badly..." Rick Nash made clowns of those two guys b/c he's one if not the most, underrated player in the NHL (dude needs to get the hell out of Columbus). If Nash wants to, he'll drag around any guy NOT in the NHL 10/10 times....
