Looking for a straight blade

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone,

My girlfriend has picked up hockey recently, and was wondering if there was anywhere that has straight blades, or really close. I'll even get ridiculous for a moment and even ask ask if anyone know where one could pick up Crosby pro return blades (she's a lefty).

any help would be huge. It tried searching but nothing came up.

thanks in advance.

I used to like retail spezzas by swd. Slight mid-heel, slightly open. If its too curvy for you, just heat it with a heat gun then step on it to flatten it.

I would recommend going with a slight heel curve, and not necessarily a pure straight blade, the only reason being that your girlfriend would be able to get it airborne a little easier and backhands would be similar to a straight blade. Nothing says progression of skill like being able to lift the puck to the net.

just my two cents.

A straight blade used to be used for any range of skill is really an experts blade in terms of getting off efficient wristers and slappers.

thanks guys for the info....

westcoast - any blade with a slight heel you suggest?

wookie - If i use a heat gun would that do anything to the strength of the blade.....sorry for the noobish question, i never had to heat a blade before....always been happy with the lemieux curve myself:-)

thanks again

There definitely is a loss of durability I experience when modifying blades, but I also put on a toe curve after straightening out the heel. Despite this, the blade seems to retain its stiffness until it starts to crack and go.

I have yet to successfully curve a composite blade, however. I use SWD 950 tapered woodies, available on hockeymonkey for like $20 a piece when buying 3 at a time.

I learned on a bourque blade, I would recommend a lidstrom blade because it seems a little longer and taller than other blades mentioned giving a little more forgiveness in terms of receiving passes and letting slappers go (I think you should just station her out on the top of the right circle and get her to fire one timers until she's constantly blasting them in the net, then get her tryout for national womens team 'cause I've yet to see a one timer goal in womens hockey (not to say I haven't seen good hockey, just no one timers). She'd be a lock. :)

ha, she used to figure skate, so shes got skating down pretty good. Her only hangup is properly gripping the stick, she prefers to stand up because she doesn't like to "stick my butt out"

clarification then:

She doesn't have hockey skating down.

Put a pair of breezers on her and make her look in the mirror then point out there aint no way anyone is gonna be looking at her ass while wearing those. :P
