CCM U+ Skate 09 pricing

Recommended Posts

Just saw the prices on Hockey Monkey for the CCM U+ 09; $289.00. How come about 1/2 the price of the 08 models?

yeah my LHS offered them to me for the same price. I had them baked and tried them on and didn't like them. Way too little ankle padding in there for me. All to make them lighter, but the feeling wasn't so great. I'll probably just get a pair of V06's for $140 instead.

Ray, I have the V06's now and like them, but was thinking the newer models with the u+ foam would be some improvement in fit. But, it sounds like the new u+ models have less ankle padding; was that your experience?

I tried on the V06 last week and they had a ton more ankle padding than the U+. You can barely see the space where the achilles should be between the 2 foam pads on the inside of the skate on the U+ because there is so little foam. I am actually looking for a decent, good bargain skate to convert for roller. I wear RBK 5K's for ice and like the fit and feel of those. I would probably like the stiffness of the 7K better than the 5K. But all in all I do like the 5K. I am not sold on the pump, that's why I'm looking CCM for a nice boot to convert to roller. My previous roller boots are Tour and the lack of ankle padding with a very stiff boot quarter caused me a lot of pain. So much pain that I had some padding added, which made my ankles feel great, but it pushed my toes too far into the toe box. The V06 seems like a good combo of weight, stiffness and bargain for me in a boot that runs wide and seems to fit my foot well.

The store owner did mention that the 09 U+ should have more ankle padding, but I'll believe it when I see it. I guess they are also ditching the rocket runner on the 09's as well. The store I went to actually tosses them in the trash and just puts the scalloped blades on the V08 and U+.

Fish me out a bunch of 280mm steel.... I sharpen my skates so infrequently 2 or 3 pairs will probably last me as many years.

I'm not sure if they literally toss them, but I'll find out for you when I get home next week.

Highly doubt they would throw a $40 item in the trash.

Maybe if they could sharpen, they wouldn't have a problem with the Rocket Runner. I think it's pretty damn good.

Our shop defected out some bags recently...because they were dirty. Like washcloth once over dust, not run over with a forklift dirty.

Never know what some shops will consider defective/trash, just glad to have a pick at them sometimes :)

I don't know if the shop doesn't like them or their customers don't. I just know they told me if I bought the U+'s I tried on, they told me they replace them with the scalloped blades. I don't think the shop has problems sharpening as they do a nice job with custom radius and rockering.
